The core of this modified vehicle was the engine.
But this was the apocalypse. Precision equipment like engines had long stopped being produced. Everyone was, still stuck at basic construction levels, nowhere near the next stage of manufacturing,
Higher tech required foundational technology to support it.
Hayley asked, “What kind of engine do you need?”
“If possible, racing grade would be best,” Kit said. “The better the engine, the better the harvester performs.”
“That’s not something we can make,” Alex cut in coolly as he walked over. “I could get people back to work producing engines, but we don’t have the materials or tech for that level.”
“No need,” Hayley said. “We don’t have to make them.
“We don’t? Then what are we going to use?” Alex frowned. “We don’t have an engine plant. Are you planning to go pull engines from abandoned factories outside? That could work, I guess.”
“Do you think everyone’s as dumb as you?” Hayley pointed casually at the cars along the roadside. “No factory doesn’t mean no engines. Strip them.”
Alex fell completely silent.
How had he not thought of that?
Hayley gave orders on the spot. “I’ll send you every sports car I can find. You strip out every usable engine.
Not just engines. Any missing materials or components in the production chain were added to the list.
The wealth left behind in human cities was staggering. Survivors could live extremely well just by relying on thos leftovers.
With one command from Hayley, the entire base launched into large–scale dismantling and reuse.
Old resources were broken down and reorganized into things they could actually use now.
Steel, lumber, industrial parts, mechanical components, construction materials, piping. If it could be used, it got taken apart.
Haylight League entered another major phase of resource restructuring.
Around the same time, the first defensive line was nearing completion. More and more bases from outside the perimeter were relocated inside the wall.
Everyone gathered within, facing the endless zombie tide together
At the end of December, Hayley finally received good news.
The first defensive line was officially completed.
The moment she heard, Hayley immediately flew out above the line.
The helicopter thundered through the air. Hayley flew the entire stretch, from the southern end to the northern edge.
Outside the massive wall, clusters of zombies appeared at regular intervals.

“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
From Brookville and Crestford, endless waves of zombies surged toward the wall.
Along one main road, hundreds, even thousands, of zombies slammed themselves against the towering steel barrier.
They climbed over the bodies of their own kind, snarling as they piled upward. Gradually, triangular mounds of stacked zombies formed.
They tried to climb by piling on top of one another, but halfway up, long blades swept through them like sickles through grain.
