Chapter 507

Nathaniel reached for Hayley, trying to drag her into a run. When he turned his head, she was already gone.
“Hey, dummy! Why are you still standing there? Run!”
Nathaniel froze for half a second.
Hayley was already sprinting ahead, 16 dogs in tow, plus Griffin barely keeping up.
Zombies lunged at them along the way, but Hayley never lifted a hand. Her dogs handled everything.
One swipe, one kill. Bodies flew. Heads shattered.
Summer was the most terrifying of them all. After the system upgrades, his size and strength were on another level entirely. His massive paws were closer to a tiger’s than a dog’s. 3
One clean strike to a zombie’s head, and the skull caved in on the spot.
“Woof, woof!”
“Woof, woof, woof!”
The barking squad tore straight out of the opera house where the outbreak had started.
Outside was pure chaos. The streets were packed with people running in blind panic.
Blood–soaked zombies weaved through the crowd, chasing living bodies like moving meals.
Some people lay on the ground, torn up and bleeding. Within minutes, they started shaking, then pushed themselves back up.
“Raarh!”
One newly turned zombie, closest to Hayley, staggered to its feet and locked onto her. Its cloudy eyes burned with feral hunger.
It broke into motion, its legs driving forward with the explosive speed of an Olympic sprinter, lunging straight at her in a frenzied charge.
“Woof, woof, woof!”
Before it could get anywhere near her, Summer slammed into it and crushed it flat.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
Two more zombies lunged from the sides. Ace, Spade, Club, and Jack charged together, ripping them apart in
seconds.
Hayley stayed at the center. Her dogs formed a tight moving wall around her. Anything that jumped in got swatted down instantly.
The crowd fled. Zombies surged. But not a single one made it through to her.
Nathaniel caught up from behind and froze at the sight.
His eyes lit up again.

These were not normal dogs.

Ark bases had tried training animals to fight zombies before. The results were mediocre at best, the losses high. Raising even one usable combat animal was painfully difficult.
But Hayley’s dogs?
Every single one was elite.
Nathaniel’s gaze sharpened.
Nearby, members of Ark Three caught up and started talking fast.
“Those dogs are insane!”
“They’re slaughtering zombies like nothing.”
“How did they train them?”
“Why can’t our base pull this off?”
The man in the white mask turned to Nathaniel. “Sir, your base really surprised us.”
Nathaniel gave a casual nod, eyes still shining.
