The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 508

Chapter 508

Ruth and her people rushed everyone into Ark Two’s inner zone.

Once the guests were secure, waves of Ark Two combat teams poured out to clean up.

Nathaniel’s group stood atop the wall of the inner zone, looking down.

Ark Two’s layout was completely different from Ark One.

Ark One was a fivelevel underground bunker.

Ark Two was a surface fortress, rings wrapped around rings.

Once the outbreak hit the middle zone, both the outer and inner zone gates slammed shut, and all base guards surged in to suppress it.

In less than half an hour, the zombie incident was fully contained.

Ark Two really is impressive,a man in a white mask said with thinly veiled sarcasm. They not only developed a zombie virus inhibitor, but they also resolved an internal outbreak so quickly. If this were any other base, who knows what would’ve happened?

Nathaniel’s face darkened instantly. Who the hell was this guy shading?

Just then, a voice came from behind him.

Other bases might not handle outbreaks well,Hayley said lightly, but at least they know how to call for outside help. Not like certain idiots who spend a fortune and end up bringing zombies home themselves.

Nathaniel froze. Then, his eyes lit up.

Hayley shot him a look and silently mouthed, Watch and learn.

Nathaniel couldn’t help it. He broke into a grin.

What are you implying?someone from Ark Three snapped, catching the undertone immediately.

Ruth’s expression tightened. She rushed in to smooth things over. This incident was an accident. Please don’t argue. Let’s all calm down and go eat.

Ms. Sarratt,Hayley said calmly, was it really an accident? You sold a zombie inhibitor, and right after that, your base breaks out with zombie infections. That timing’s a little too perfect, don’t you think?

Hayley had never missed a chance to stir things up.

Ark Three had paid an insane price for a fake inhibitor. If she didn’t throw gasoline on that fire, she would be letting herself down.

The effect was immediate.

Everyone’s expressions shifted as the same thought clicked into place. All eyes turned to Ruth.

Ruth, explain this.

Our outbreak really was an accident,Ruth said quickly. I swear our inhibitor has no issues at all.

The deal had just closed. The supplies were barely secured. This couldn’t blow up now.

I don’t believe you, someone from Ark Three said sharply. Where’s the test subject? Hand her over!

Ruth hesitated.

If you can’t produce her, this auction is void.

It can’t be void,Ruth said hurriedly. Give me a moment. I’ll contact the inner zone manager and bring her to you.

No,Ark Three said. We’re coming with you.
