Chapter 510
Ruth led them deeper inside, turning into the third corridor on the right.
The moment they disappeared into it, a delayed message finally crackled through the access terminal behind them.
“Do not enter the research wing. Stay away from the labs.”
The warning was too quiet. Everyone had already gone in.
Only Hayley’s ears twitched. She slowed slightly, dogs in hand, and glanced back toward the corner they had just passed.
At the far end of the long, straight corridor behind them, a shadow flickered past.
“What are you looking at?” Nathaniel asked when he noticed she had fallen behind.
“This place is huge,” Hayley said.
“Yeah,” Nathaniel replied. “First time I’ve been down here, too. It’s bigger than I expected.”
As soon as his words fell, a sound rolled through the underground space like a rising tide.
Tap, tap, tap…
Tap, tap, tap.
Dense footsteps rushed closer, echoing sharply through the wide, silent halls.
Everyone froze.
“Ahhh!”
A researcher in a white lab coat burst into view along the main corridor behind them. He was sprinting at full speed, as if something was right on his heels.
After he passed through their line of sight, more people followed.
Dozens of them.
As they were running for their lives, one man stumbled. The instant he hit the ground, a blood–soaked zombie lunged from behind.
“Raarh!”
It bit straight into his ear. One savage pull, and the entire ear tore free, complete and intact, with a strip of canal and tissue dangling behind it.
“Ahhh!”
The scream and the blood drew more zombies in instantly. Seven or eight piled onto him within seconds. Behind thern, even more zombies flooded forward, bodies twisted, limbs dragged, necks bent at impossible angles.
They chased the fleeing crowd like starving animals.
Anyone who slowed down was jumped and chewed through. Anyone who fell was swallowed immediately.
Some people shoved others forward to buy themselves time.

In moments, the corridor turned into a living tide of death.
It all happened in seconds.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
The main corridor behind them was already packed with zombies.
Some fed, while some chased.
Others lifted their heads, catching sight of fresh movement to the side.
A whole cluster turned at once.
Like something crawling straight out of hell, mouths open and dripping, they charged toward the group.
“How did this happen?” Ruth’s face drained as she saw the zombies rushing in.
She immediately urged everyone forward, breaking into a desperate run. They barely reached the next intersection before another wave poured out from ahead.
“Raarh!”
