Chapter 511
“Raarh!”
The closest zombie lunged straight at the cluster of white masks.
Boom!
A fire orb blasted out and exploded midair.
Ark Three’s guards moved instantly, forming a tight shield around their leaders.
“Ruth! What the hell is going on?” the white mask man shouted.
“I don’t know,” Ruth said, staring at the zombies closing in from every direction. “I didn’t know the virus had broken out down here, too!”
“We’re all in your base,” the white mask snapped. “You are responsible for our safety. Get us somewhere secure. Now!”
Ruth clenched her jaw and forced herself to stay calm. “We’ll go to the manager’s office. There’s a hidden passage there.”
“Then move!”
“But it’s deep inside.”
“I don’t care how far it is. We’re leaving alive. Go!”
Ruth stopped hesitating. She ordered her people to charge straight into the zombie–filled corridor.
Everyone followed close behind.
Hayley, eternally content to stay in the middle, walked calmly with 16 dogs in hand. No zombie even got close to
her
Nathaniel, running ahead, couldn’t help but feel a flicker of envy. With a pack like that, she was absurdly safe.
Ruth’s people fought at the front, abilities flying nonstop. Elemental orbs were thrown again and again.
But it didn’t take long before they started slowing.
That was when Hayley noticed the problem.
While most of their abilities looked impressive and easily hit level 3 output, they burned out way too fast. Compared to the Gifted in the Haylight League, the difference was glaring.
These people lacked real combat experience. They simply hadn’t killed enough zombies.
They were like gym bodies with pretty muscles and no working strength; strong on paper, but useless in real fights.
All three Ark bases were like this, flashy but fragile.
Hayley quietly filed that away. The more she knew, the easier it would be later.
She didn’t lift a finger. She didn’t let the dogs move, either.
She just watched.

Very quickly, Ruth realized her people couldn’t hold much longer.
“Help us!” she shouted.
As she spoke, a zombie broke through her defense and slammed straight into one of her guards.
His abilities were already drained, and his footing was unsteady. He didn’t even have the strength left to shove the zombie off.
All he could do was feel the dead weight crush him down. Feel claws dig into the back of his head.
The zombie’s sharp nails tore through his scalp, digging in mercilessly, scraping into his nerves and bones, burrowing deeper and deeper.
Rip!
A bloody line tore across his skull.
Cold shock hit him first. Then, searing pain drilled straight through him.
