“The best move is to break their plans. Next is breaking their alliances. Then, their armies. The worst option is attacking their cities head–on.”
Samuel laid out the four maxims calmly.
Hayley’s eyes lit up immediately.
Right!
Charging in with brute force was the dumbest option. There were so many better ways to deal with them.
“With that much internal conflict, splitting them from the inside is perfect,” Samuel said, holding nothing back.” Support an opposing force within their base. Let them clash with their own leadership. If you can replace the people at the top and push your own allies up, that’s ideal.”
It clicked instantly.
In Ark One, Hayley already had Gideon, the man who murdered his sister when she turned into a zombie. In Ark Two, there was the Women’s Unit. 2
Those were ready–made pressure points.
“Go on,” Hayley said, leaning forward.
Samuel did. “Stir up conflict between the three bases. Make them see each other as enemies. Let them fight. We stay hands off.
“When one side is about to be wiped out, we step in and support the weaker one. Don’t let any of them die too fast. Let them bleed each other dry first.
“Then, finish them in one clean strike.”
Hayley exhaled slowly, grinning. “Guess you really can’t outplay a veteran.”
Samuel laughed and waved it off. “I’m old. The future belongs to you kids. Holly, all of this only works if we’re strong enough. If we’re weak, even the best plan is just noise. If you want to swallow your enemies whole, you need the strength to back it up.”
Hayley nodded seriously.
Both sides mattered.
Her league had to grow stronger. The three Ark bases had to be worn down.
She wasn’t going to be prey. She was going to be the tiger no one dared step on.
After leaving Samuel, she immediately checked on her base.
The first defensive line was complete, and construction on the second was already underway.
The second line protected the city itself. Most of the population lived there, so a city wall wasn’t optional. Crews were working around the clock.
Meanwhile, Kit’s zombie harvesting machine had entered real deployment.
Liam’s squad went out daily, clearing nearby zombie packs. One run through was enough to flatten hundreds of

bodies. They could wipe out over a thousand zombies in a single day.
At the same time, production was running hot.
Factories were back online, dismantling whatever they could reuse. Building materials and equipment rolled off the lines nonstop.
Agriculture kept pace. Food output climbed steadily, and living standards rose with it.
People weren’t just full anymore; they were eating well. Meat on the table was no longer a fantasy.
After settling back in, Hayley organized crates of fruit.
She bundled together the less perfect produce that her league barely cared about anymore and shipped it to Nathaniel.
At the auction, one box of strawberries had sold for 7,000 crystal cores. She priced her mixed fruit boxes at only 700 cores each. 1
When Nathaniel received them, he was stunned.
He hadn’t expected her to actually have this much high–quality fruit, and at prices this low.
He figured her base must be near the eastern coast, rich in resources, and that these fruits must have been incredibly hard to obtain.
He kept all 50 crates on the spot, then redistributed them to the other two bases.
The other bases were equally shocked.
