The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 517

Chapter 517

We can only ever rely on ourselves.

After saying that, Leena hugged the wallet to her chest and turned back inside.

As the door closed, Hayley heard a shout from within, the voice tight and shaking with tears.

Fall in! Move!

Hayley stood there, her chest twisting hard.

In the end, people really do only have themselves.

Their support was gone now. The only way forward was to grow faster, stronger, and tougher, just to survive the apocalypse.

No matter how hard it got, they had to keep going.

Captain Gorgeous, what’s wrong?

Woof, woof, woof!

Woof, woof!

Woof!

Griffin walked over with the dogs.

Summer circled Hayley and nudged her leg.

Hayley dropped her hand, abandoning the thought of knocking again, and rubbed Summer’s head. Let’s go home.

She remembered those girls from Ark Two.

Before leaving, she found the outer zone manager and casually used Nathaniel’s name, saying Leena’s group had caught their attention.

The manager nodded immediately, sharp and eager, promising to look after them without Hayley needing to say anything else.

With that done, Hayley returned to the inner zone.

Nathaniel had finished his discussions, too.

Hayley didn’t know what kind of deal he struck with Ark Two, but when they left, Ark Two’s director personally saw them off.

The helicopter lifted off from Ark Two. After several hours in the air, they returned to Ark One, sitting alone on the grasslands.

I’m worn out. I’ll head back,Hayley said. She stepped off Nathaniel’s helicopter and walked toward her own.

Nathaniel didn’t stop her. Things went wrong this time. I didn’t show you around properly.

That’s fine. Call me next time you’ve got something going on.

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, smiling. Alright. I’ll take you out again sometime.

Hayley flashed him an OK sign and boarded her helicopter with the dogs. Just before getting in, she remembered something else.

I’ll send over some specialty goods from my base later. Help me sell them.

No problem,Nathaniel said without hesitation.

He stood there, watching as Hayley’s helicopter rose into the sky. Only after it disappeared did he turn back.

This trip with Nathaniel had given Hayley a clear look at all three Ark bases.

She hadn’t been inside Ark Three itself, but she had seen its senior leadership.

Each base was worse than the last. Every one of the people at the top made her sick. Wiping out their leadership would be justice.

The question was how.
