Chapter 531
After leaving the dorm, Max and Ryan headed toward the women’s section.
They still had five coworkers over there.
Two were brothers, whose mother was still alive. The other three all had wives or daughters in that section.
They had just reached the corridor when a scream tore through the air.
“Mom! I’m your eldest son, Chad! Why are you biting me?!”
In the middle of the crowd, an elderly woman was straddling a young man’s neck, tearing into his shoulder with her teeth. Half his upper body was soaked with blood.
The young man’s brother beside them tried desperately to pull her off, clawing at her arms and shouting her name. But no matter how hard he pulled, he couldn’t pry the old woman off once she latched on.
People froze in a circle around them, staring in disbelief.
Most of them were locals from the surrounding mountains. When the apocalypse first broke out, Ark Three had taken them in because it needed labor. They had barely seen real zombies before.
“S–She didn’t turn into a zombie, did she?”
Someone finally voiced the fear out loud.
The moment the words left their mouth, screams erupted, and people stumbled backward in panic.
At the same time, screams burst out from multiple rooms behind them.
“Aaaah! Honey!”
A man covered in blood staggered out of a room, barely keeping his feet.
Behind him, one zombie appeared. Then two, three…
Six in total poured out after him.
“Raarh!”
One zombie lunged at the nearest living person, jaws opening wide as it clamped down.
“Aaaargh!”
The crowd completely collapsed into chaos. People scattered in every direction, tripping over one another.
More rooms burst open. Blood–soaked figures poured out, necks twisted, limbs jerking, eyes already gray and dead. They chased the fleeing crowd, snarling, grabbing, biting.
Man or woman, young or old, thin or heavy. If it was alive, it was food.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
“Run!” Ryan shouted, grabbing Max’s hand and turning without hesitation.
They sprinted back toward the men’s section.

Around them, residents fled in blind panic, crashing into walls, knocking each other down.
The outbreak had started in the women’s section. The men’s side had barely been affected.
At least, not yet.
But as Ryan dragged Max toward their dorm, his heart sank.
“Raarh!”
The scream came from their own hallway. Men who had been watching from nearby rushed toward the noise.
“Get back!” Ryan yelled.
“Raarh!”
As they reached the door, the couple they had just spoken to stumbled off the bed.
It was Harry and his wife. Their clothes were soaked in blood, and their eyes were a dull, lifeless gray.
They lunged forward together.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
