The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 530

Chapter 530

Davy shook so hard that his teeth rattled. He stared in horror as the bathroom stall door buckled inward inch by

inch.

The zombie was about to break through!

Davy grabbed the mop he had brought in with him and jammed one end against the back wall, the other against the door.

The second he felt it hold, even just barely, he climbed onto the toilet tank and scrambled upward, hands and feet slipping as he hauled himself up.

The moment his fingers hooked over the top of the stall divider, the restroom door behind him exploded open with a deafening crash.

Piers, now a zombie, snarled and thrashed below Davy, clawing wildly at his dangling legs with stiffened, blackened fingers.

Heart pounding, Davy kicked hard, bracing off the slick divider like a rabbit kicking off a hawk, and hauled himself onto the top edge.

From there, he saw the body on the floor outside the stall.

Gus lay in a pool of blood, torn apart, his body twitching. The convulsions grew stronger and stronger each time.

Then

Ugh!

The body jerked violently, and a pair of cloudy gray eyes snapped open..

Gus!

At the same time

Ark Three, Level One.

After finishing the first full meal they’d had since the apocalypse, Max and Ryan returned to their dorm. The dorms here housed eight people each, separated strictly by gender.

All men together, and all women together.

Families were routinely split apart.

Max and Ryan were considered lucky. At least they still had each other.

Most of their coworkers lived apart from their wives, daughters, or mothers.

People at the bottom might scheme against each other, but luckily, they also knew how to cut each other some slack. At mealtimes, they would cross into other sections just to sit with their family for a few minutes. Nobody made a big deal out of it.

Inside the room now, only one coworker had brought his wife over to eat. The others had carried their food wherever their families were staying.

That man looked up when Max and Ryan came in.

+15 Bonus

You’re back. You didn’t get to eat, did you? I saw Mr. Powers take your food.

He glanced nervously toward the door and waved them over in a whisper.

Come here. I saved a little. Let Max have it.

Everyone had shared what Max found earlier. No one had been left out.

Ryan saw the man still had a small rib bone wrapped in cloth and shook his head.

We already ate.

Come on,the man muttered. That jerk, Piers, stole your food. Stop pretending. Sit down and have some.

Mr. Baker, really, we’re full,Max said, glancing at Ryan.

They exchanged a look.

Harry Baker seemed decent. They could recruit him.

They were just about to sit and talk when a groan came from across the room.

Honey, my stomachIt hurts.

Harry immediately turned, panic on his face.
