The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 533

Chapter 533

Raarh!

A zombie burst into the dining hall. It was covered in blood, its face twisted into something barely human.

The zombie was huge. It was built like a tank, fast and powerful, the kind that was born strength and speed- enhanced all at once.

The moment it charged in, it lunged straight for the nearest guard. Its jaws clamped down on the man’s neck with a wet crunch. Its fangs pierced cartilage clean through.

Crunch, crunch

The sound rang out like someone chewing straight through bone.

Someone recognized the zombie.

That’s Piers! The Level One manager! How did he turn, too?

Bang!

Arnold fired without hesitation, blowing Piers’s head apart midbite.

Before anyone could breathe, more zombies came pouring in.

Raarh!

Raarh!

Raarh!

At the front were Gus and Davy, both still wearing their janitor uniforms.

Davy’s abdomen had been torn open. A length of intestine dangled out, and Gus was chewing on it while running. Blood sprayed with every bite.

They charged straight toward the brightly lit dining hall, dragging a wave of freshly turned zombies behind them.

Raarh!

They flooded the room.

Only then did Arnold think to shut the door. He kicked one guard straight into the horde to block them. Then, he shoved another forward.

Close the damn door!

The second guard fumbled, barely managing to slam the doors shut in time.

Inside the room, the guard who had been bitten earlier by Piers collapsed onto the floor. His body started convulsing. His neck locked up, muscles twitching as he was seconds away from turning.

Bang!

Arnold shot him, too.

Silence fell.

+15 Banus

All the zombies inside the room were dead.

Arnold stood there drenched in sweat, scanning every face.

No more infections.

Outside, the doors thundered under nonstop impacts.

He keyed his comm.

All Level Three guards, get to Level Five now! Suppress the zombie surge!

Thirty minutes later, with reinforcements arriving and help from Leonard and the guards brought by the other bases, the outbreak on Level Five was finally contained.

Only then did Arnold truly steady himself.

He stared at the bodies, his expression dark.
