Chapter 544
Ryan, fully turned, caught the scent of living flesh. His cloudy gray eyes snapped open. He let out a hoarse snarl and lunged, jaws wide.
He bit down hard.
Sigmund fought like hell, shoving Ryan away with everything he had left. But his abilities were already drained from the earlier fight. There was nothing left to draw on.
The zombie slammed back into Sigmund and tore in.
Hayley watched from the side, expression flat.
If anything, this felt earned.
The outbreak at Ark Three traced back to the fake inhibitor Ark Two had sold. Now, the fallout was landing squarely on them.
They had held an auction, charged obscene prices, and sold something unstable and useless. They had even tested it on living people in front of everyone.
Now, their own base was drowning in zombies.
Ark Three had been dragged down with them.
All of it was self–inflicted.
Without abilities to protect him, Sigmund didn’t stand a chance. His strength was nothing compared to a zombie’s.
Because zombies couldn’t feel pain and weren’t limited by normal human physical restraints, their jaws could stretch open to their widest possible angle. When they clawed, their muscles pulled to the very edge of their structure, releasing every ounce of strength their bodies could produce.
That was why, overall, zombies were far stronger than humans.
When their claws clamped onto someone’s shoulder, it was like being caught in a cold steel trap. No matter how violently you struggled, you couldn’t pry yourself free from the rigid lock of those five fingers.
Each knuckle of a zombie was curved like a barbed hook, driven deep into flesh. The only way to break free was to tear off the entire chunk of meat they had embedded themselves in.
And paired with that came the zombies‘ savage, relentless biting.
Every inch of skin became part of their feast.
With each bite, their jaws strained to the limit. Teeth ground harshly against bone, crunching and cracking, ripping and tearing as they swallowed and gnawed down anything they could sink their teeth into.
Desperate, Sigmund ripped off his mask and bit back.
Man and corpse tore into each other.
Mid–struggle, Sigmund finally turned.
As the new zombie finished tearing Ryan apart, it let out a wild roar, fear and pain gone completely. It twisted upright and charged toward the remaining living people.

A black cloth pouch appeared in Hayley’s mind.
She focused on it. Text shimmered across the surface.

The pouch opened.
