Chapter 55
Leonard wasn’t sure what kind of soundproofing Hayley had installed here, or what kind of high-end generator she had managed to get her hands on, but the thing was almost silent.
Normally, a diesel generator would rattle your bones and shake the walls, especially in a sealed -off space like this.
Leonard had no clue that the generator had been upgraded by Hayley’s system.
Inside the shelter, everything was neat and organized. There was a couch, a wool rug, a big bed, a bathroom, and several locked rooms in the back, each sealed with heavy doors that looked like they belonged to a bank vault.
The second floor seemed to be a tower room, with a whole row of computers and even a mounted crossbow.
Add that to the crops outside, the electrified fence, the traps, and the pack of trained dogs, this place looked more than a shelter-it was a fully stocked fortress.
One person living here could hold off just about any danger.
Unless a professional military unit showed up to storm the place-but really, what army would waste time attacking a random hidden bunker in the middle of nowhere?
Wait…
That was when it hit Leonard-the location.
The base was ridiculously well-hidden. Nobody would ever imagine that tucked away in this thick forest was such a fully built, insanely strong fortress.
It was practically impossible for anyone to stumble across it.
This girl had thought of everything.
The more Leonard went over what he had seen, the more shaken he became.
Who was this girl?
How had she managed to build a doomsday shelter like this out here, all on her own?
And where the hell had she gotten all of this gear
He recalled the bear traps outside and the vehicle she drove. They had already checked those things, and the craftsmanship was way beyond modern tech.
Had she built them herself?
Back then, she hadn’t had miracle cures. She could only give people basic treatment-stop the bleeding, disinfect, and hope their bodies were strong enough to survive. Most of the time, it all came down to luck.
But things were different now.
She flipped her hand, pretending to pull something from her pocket, when she actually pulled it straight from her inventory.
It was a tiny vial containing the emergency pill.
With that in hand, not even the Grim Reaper could take Liam.
She remembered it had come from the big reward pack she had gotten during her last crystal core trade. One pill alone cost 100 points.
If she hadn’t been dead set on winning Leonard over, she never would’ve wasted it.
Leonard’s eyes flicked to the pill bottle as Hayley pulled it out. He opened his mouth as if he was about to ask, but no words came out.
Instead, he just kept his eyes locked on her.
Right now, he had no choice but to trust her.
