Chapter 554

Hey, don’t feel bad,Hayley said, looking at Griffin like she meant it. “Staying home counts as a degree, t You’re already more educated than a lot of people.

Griffin blinked. There are people less educated than me?

Sure. Prenatal level.

He just stared at her. For a second, he felt like biting her.

Before he could say anything, sharp footsteps echoed from the stairwell on the right.

Hayley turned immediately.

The hallway was dead quiet.

Then, a black high heel stepped out first.

Click.

After the heel hit the floor, a long leg wrapped in sheer black stockings wobbled into view.

Then, a short black skirt. A fitted black blazer. A white blouse.

The figure stumbled down the stairs awkwardly. Whoever that zombie had been in life, it clearly hadn’t been g at walking in heels. Momentum carried it forward, and it staggered several steps before catching itself.

Then it stopped, its head hung low.

A female teacher in a tight black uniform stood there.

Raarh!

It snapped its head up. Its face was chalk white, twisted with hunger and excitement. It hadn’t eaten in years. The crooked heel didn’t slow the zombie down at all. It charged forward, heels hammering against the tile.

At the same time, pounding footsteps erupted from the stairwell on the left behind them.

Four or five more zombies rushed down.

One was missing an arm, and another was dragging half a leg. One had half its face torn away. Another had its abdomen ripped open and hollowed out.

They seemed old and had been rotting for years. The moment they saw living flesh, they surged forward.

They were hungry,

So damn hungry!

Shing!

Hayley pulled the blade from behind her back and swung sideways at the female teacher. One clean strike, and she split its skull.

She grabbed Griffin by the collar and shoved him behind her as the others lunged.

One slash each, quick and efficient. There was no wasted movement. Thirty seconds later, every zombie that had

rushed down lay still across the floor.

Hayley told Griffin to collect the crystal cores.

She made a little noise on the first floor on purpose, hoping to draw anything else down before heading up.

They killed eleven zombies total on the first floor of the administration building. That was it.

Hayley frowned.

Wasn’t that a little too few?

With that question lingering in her mind, she checked the rest of the first floor and moved up to the second flo

The administration building had five floors.

The second floor was even quieter.

The scuff marks and dust trails in the hallway were clearly from the zombies that had just run downstairs.

She checked each office one by one.

The second floor was clear. The third floor, too.

It was silent.

Too silent.

From the third floor up, enclosed walkways connected this building to the adjacent classroom buildings.

Hayley cleared the rest of the administration building floor by floor. After taking down three stragglers, she was certain of one thing.
