Chapter 564
“This is nothing,” Hayley said lightly.
Sydney’s eyes were shining. After everything she had seen today, she couldn’t help it.
“She’s Trina,” Sydney explained.
“She used to be the most popular girl in our class. Her mom’s on the school board. Her dad’s some big–name businessman. S acted like a princess here. Everyone had to cater to her.
“She once liked a senior guy. When she found out he had a girlfriend, she went straight to the girl and told her to break up wit him. The girl refused, so Trina had her mom pull strings and get the girl expelled. It almost made the news. Her dad paid to ke it quiet.”
Hayley nodded slowly.
Spoiled rich kid. Well, that tracked.
“There’s more,” Sydney added. “Our dorms are four people in a room. She demanded a private room. We’re not allowed off campus for food, and we can’t order any deliveries either. Her mom brought her meals every single day.
“Everyone has to wear uniforms. She didn’t. She skipped P.E. and never showed up to training week, except on the last day.
“She’s always had special treatment, and she’s bossy and mean. Nobody really liked her.
“Even now, she still acts like she’s above everything. Won’t do this, won’t touch that. If Mr. Ortega hadn’t kept telling us we needed to stick together, I don’t think anyone would’ve stayed with her.
“But you shut her down fast. That was satisfying.”
Hayley glanced at the group comforting Trina in the distance and let out a quiet laugh. “Eat before it gets cold.”
“Okay!”
Sydney and Andrew split the container evenly. One used the lid as a plate, while the other balanced the base.
They grabbed their utensils and dug in.
They picked up a piece of barbecue rib, something they hadn’t tasted in years and existed only in memory.
After taking a bite, their eyes went wide.
Wow!
The rich, hearty texture of the meat and the tender, smoky fragrance of the barbecue ribs instantly flooded their taste bunla
They hadn’t experienced food this delicious ju such a long time; their cheeks tingled, saliva tloosing their mouths uncontrollably.
It was so delicious!
They took another bite of the rice soaked in gravy, with tender chicken meat tu ked inside
Sydney and Andrew almost felt like crying as they ate They never imagined that after the apocalypse they would one day taste food this good again.
Even when the apocalypse had just begun, when the cafeteria still held plenty of dishes and tee, they had never eaten anything like this.
None of them knew how to cook During the early days of pante after the zombie outbreak, they had only followed Marvin around, constantly hiding.

All they had eaten were simple things like bread and sausages. Hot, freshly cooked meals were impossible.
And after that, it became even more impossible.
The flavors from before the apocalypse had long become distant memories, yet today, they were eating them again.
Sydney and Andrew devoured the food in huge bites.
