Marvin didn’t speak on impulse.
He had thought it through, over and over.
Their supplies were running low. If they stayed here, they would eventually starve.
Sydney and Andrew’s description of the outside stuck with him. Hayley mentioned a league. Multiple bases working togeth that was real, it was a lighthouse in the dark.
And if it wasn’t…
He studied Hayley’s face.
Her eyes were sharp, steady. There was something unshakable about her. She was nothing ordítary; her skin was healthy, expression calm. That wasn’t the look of someone scraping by on scraps.
Besides, their gear was high–grade, and the food they had eaten wasn’t luck. Even if she had exaggerated, she definitely ca from somewhere strong.
It was worth the gamble.
Thus, Marvin decided to follow her.
After the words he had worked up the courage to say left his mouth, a lazy response drifted over from the other side.
“And why would I take you?”
Marvin opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
Right. Just because he had decided to gamble didn’t mean she was obligated to bring them along.
“Miss!” Sydney and Andrew both stepped forward. “You said we could go.”
“If you’re taking two, you can take all of us,” Sydney said quickly, trying to sound light.
“Stop.” Hayley cut Sydney off before she could say more. She liked the two teens, but she said, “I take my people. That’s it. It ti two of you want to come, step over now and swear into my base. I’ll keep you alive. The rest of them? Not my responsibility.”
Sydney hesitated. She jogged over anyway, eyes hopeful.
“Please, miss. You’re a good person. You can help everyone.”
Hayley sneered, “If you’re not joining, step back.”
She had never been an easy person to talk into anything She stuck firmly to her own rules. Even if she had more than enough strength to protect them, she would never take on extra baggage for no reason
Why should she bring them along?
The two of them should cour their lucky stars that they had even caught her attention if they didn’t value that chance, they could walk away
Hayley had no interest in negotiating or setting conditions with them
After Sydney was bluntly turned down, her face immediately fell
Before she could say anything else, Marvin stepped forward again “Then we’ll follow behind you You don’t have to take responsibility We just want to leave this place, that’s all ”
Hayley glanced at him. “The road doesn’t belong to me

That was all she said.
Then, she grabbed Griffin and headed for the stairs.
