The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 594

Chapter 594

The next day, Hayley drove out to the first defensive line early in the morning.

By the time she arrived, more than 400 students from the Haylight League school were already assembled.

Every student wore the League’s standard polymer combat suit, fully sealed from head to toe.

Today’s final exam had only one subject: kill zombies.

Students were allowed to use firearms, blades, or any approved weapon. Every confirmed kill counted toward

their score.

Of course, Milo had prepared the testing grounds at dawn.

Each exam zone had been cleared in advance, leaving only about 100 zombies per area to keep things controlled and safe for the younger trainees.

The moment the students spotted Hayley, their still-youthful faces lit up with excitement.

“Do your best today,” she said.

“We will, Ms. Reid!”

Their reply rang out in perfect unison.

Students formed into four groups based on age brackets.

The youngest examinees were eight years old.

There was a noticeable age gap among children inside the League. Kids younger than eight were rare. Ages eight

to ten were still limited. Most students clustered between twelve and fourteen.

During the apocalypse, children and the elderly had suffered the highest death rates.

From the outbreak’s beginning through its worst years, the weak had always been the first victims.

But the children who survived were no longer fragile. Every child standing here had endured the harshest realities of the apocalypse before joining Hayley’s league.

Their eyes carried the fierce spark of young predators learning to hunt.

Hayley approved of that spirit.

In her past life, by the late apocalypse, children and adults differed little psychologically.

The only difference was resources.

Kids were weaker and rarely received support, no matter how tough they became. Strong adults always dominated

survival resources.

To live, children had to be sharper, faster, and more ruthless than grown ups.

Now, she gave them something different. She gave them opportunities, resources, and protection.

Even the smallest survivor deserved strength. Even the weakest child deserved the power to fight back against the apocalypse.

The exam began.

Each group of 100 students entered its assigned testing zone.

Every student carried one firearm loaded with two rounds.

One zombie kill meant passing. Two kills earned an excellent rating. If both bullets missed, students were required to finish the job in close combat using blades.

Gunfire erupted across the wall.

Bang! Bang!

Bang!

Shots cracked nonstop as the first group completed their firing phase.

Out of 100 students, the hit rate reached 93%, while 70% landed both shots successfully. Most importantly, not single child froze in fear or refused to fire at a zombie.

“They’re trained well,” Milo said beside Hayley, clearly impressed.

Hayley nodded, equally pleased.

Soon, the remaining groups began their tests.
