The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 595

Chapter 595

Inside the helicopter, Constant studied the satellite map spread across the screen.

“Base K1 should be somewhere along the border between Aecraton and Brookville. Based on what I know about; their commander, they would pick terrain that’s easy to defend. Probably a canyon area, somewhere protected from large zombie migrations.”

As he spoke, the helicopter adjusted course toward the coordinates he indicated.

Outside, zombies covered the landscape in every direction. Building a base in territory like this was nearly impossible.

A large settlement like Base K1 had to be located somewhere isolated from major zombie concentrations, which also meant harsh living conditions.

Constant had already pictured what the place would look like.

A run-down camp with makeshift shacks everywhere. People packed together like livestock just trying to survive. It probably had terrible sanitation and was in barely livable conditions.

The endless zombie-infested terrain they flew over only reinforced that image.

And a base like that dared to reject Ark One?

“Base K1 really doesn’t know its place,” Dean scoffed. “Look at the world outside. Mr. Delgado offered them protection and alliance, and they turned him down. It’s ridiculous.”

“Harsh land breeds stubborn people,” Constant sneered. “The poorer the place, the more unreasonable its people are. When we get there, they’d better hand her over peacefully. Otherwise, we’ll flatten that entire base.”

He hadn’t forgotten how Hayley destroyed his laboratory. Today, Base K1 would pay for that twice over!

“You’re worrying too much,” Dean added confidently. “There’s no way that tiny base would refuse us again. What could they possibly use to challenge Ark One?”

As he finished speaking, the helicopter passed over the coordinates Constant had marked.

To everyone’s surprise, there was nothing there.

No settlement, no structures.

“Base K1 isn’t here?” Nathaniel opened his eyes, his voice cold.

“Circle the area,” Constant said quickly. “They have to be nearby.”

The helicopter looped back across the canyon region where Base K1 had supposedly been located.

Still nothing.

There were no people, no base.

Everyone aboard frowned, staring down at the empty valley below. Base K1 truly wasn’t there.

If not here…then where?

“Maybe that little base got swallowed by a zombie siege,” Dean surmised.

Just as he spoke, something appeared ahead.

A massive steel wall stretched across the horizon, running for miles without end.

Outside the wall, hundreds of thousands of zombies spread across the land like a living ocean, completely blocked by the barrier.

No matter how many gathered, none could breach the defense line.

Everyone inside the helicopter fell silent.

“What is that…?”

Constant stood up from his seat and pressed against the window, staring in disbelief at the colossal structure.

How could something this enormous exist out here?

“Look!” Dean shouted. “There are people on top!”

They watched as mounted machine guns along the wall erupted into fire, cutting down waves of zombies below. Within moments, entire clusters of undead collapsed.
