The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 609

Chapter 609

The manager lifted his foot, gathering strength, clearly preparing to shatter Leena’s spine with the next kick.

Before it could land, a rough voice cut through the corridor.

“What the hell are you doing?”

Leena didn’t even look up. In her desperation, she felt someone rush to her side.

Right then, a powerful kick sent the bullying junior manager flying backward.

“Are you alright?” A deep, steady male voice rang out above her.

Leena raised her head.

A man wearing a blue mask stood beside her, looking down with concern. His eyes were completely different from the men she had seen in this base.

No greed, no hunger. Just warmth, fierce and bright like fire.

“I’m fine…cough!”

The moment Leena spoke, the pressure crushing her chest finally released. She coughed, a streak of blood slipping past her lip

Seeing the blood, Thomas felt anger surge straight to his head. He turned toward the man, who was struggling to stand.

Smack!

Wearing reinforced combat gloves and boosted by strength enhancement, Thomas slapped the man so hard that he flew nearly 30 feet before crashing to the ground.

The battered manager staggered upright, fury burning across his face.

“I’m a manager of Ark Two! How dare you hit me!”

Thomas suddenly realized he had acted on impulse.

This wasn’t their base. Starting trouble here could create problems for Hayley.

Before he could say anything, a clear voice rang out behind them.

“Go tell your boss that Hayley from Base K1 did it. If there’s a problem, he can come talk to me directly.”

Hayley walked forward casually.

“Boss…”

“Nice hit,” she said.

Forget blaming him, she approved it.

Hayley had always protected her own.

Thomas hit that manager. So what? That responsibility belonged to her now.

Hayley winked at him.

Thomas, who had been worried a second ago, immediately broke into a wide grin.

“If you’re fine, get lost,” Hayley said to the manager.

Clutching his swollen face, the manager scrambled away without another word.

After he disappeared, Hayley looked at the girl still bracing herself against the floor.

“Leena?”

Five minutes later….

Hayley brought Leena into a private lounge

Leena watched the group of blue masked figures cautiously. She had never seen anyone wearing blue masks before.

“How’s your Women’s Unit doing?” the woman seated lazily on the center couch asked.

Leena froze. Her eyes widened. “You”

“Have you already forgotten me?” the woman said, removing her mask. “I was the one who returned your sister’s belongin

Recognition flashed instantly across Leena’s face.

“It’s you.”

Of course, she remembered Hayley

More than that, she knew Hayley had helped her from the shadows. A manager in the outer zone had once hinted that some important had spoken on her behalf.

Leena wasn’t naive enough to believe it was her late sister. Ruth hadn’t held that kind of influence, even when she was alive.

Only Hayley could’ve done it.

“You’ve been in the outer zone this whole time,” Hayley asked. “How’d you end up here?”

Now that Leena recognized Hayley, the defensive tension around her slowly eased.

“The base ordered girls brought in to serve visiting guests,” she said quietly. “So I came.”
