The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 662

Chapter 662

Under Alex’s careful calculations, they worked out a deployment plan with Milo.

The new anti-air defense weapons were installed along the first defensive line and near the harbor.

After what had happened with the Ark bases last time, everyone understood one thing very clearly: in the apocalypse, people were far more dangerous than zombies.

Zombies were a natural disaster. But when humans caused trouble, it could wipe everything out.

The new systems strengthened the first defensive line and made the base much harder to attack.

Still, Aecraton’s perimeter was massive, so they could only set up a basic level of coverage.

If someone launched a suicidal attack and deliberately sabotaged the base, damage was still possible.

But it would never be as devastating as before.

Hayley knew they had reached a bottleneck in development.

Still, progress took time. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Their population was limited, and their production capacity had only just recovered to something close to an industrial level. Rebuilding the kind of defense systems entire nations once had was still a long way off.

But even this basic anti-air defense gave her a stronger sense of security. They could improve the rest later.

Just as she was thinking that, a familiar voice suddenly echoed in her mind.

Ding! [Super Lord System activated!

[Please expand your territory to double its current size. Reward: Full-area anti-air defense system.]

Hayley froze.

Then, her eyes lit up.

You could always count on a good cheat ability!

She looked at Liam, Milo, Alex, and the others still studying development plans.

Then she stood up.

“Forget all that.”

Everyone looked at her.

“Starting today, we expand the territory. Go clear zombies. Taking land is the only thing that matters.”

Liam, Milo, and Alex all exchanged looks.

Then, they nodded.

They had to admit it.

Her direction was simple and brutally practical.

Clear the zombies.

Hayley’s territory already covered the entire city of Aecraton.

To double it, she had two options.

Either swallow another city whole, or push outward toward two neighboring cities at the same time.

Either way meant fighting through an entire city center.

Hayley dragged a line across the map.

“First target: Brookville.”

She marked the attack route. Everyone would advance along that line.

By August, the apocalypse had entered its fourth year.

Across the Eastern region, scattered human settlements had slowly merged into a larger network.

And from that center, humanity had begun expanding outward again.

During that time, Hayley’s league made another major breakthrough in equipment.

Their zombie-clearing vehicles had been upgraded.

They now resembled armored tanks, capable of carrying cannons and explosives.

Humanity had begun a full counterattack. First, they broadcast warnings. Then came aerial bombardment. After that, ground forces moved in and cleared the area.

In just two months, Hayley’s forces pushed their front line through two-thirds of Brookville. Entire streets had been cleared.

For the first time in years, some areas were truly empty.

No zombies, no people, just silence.

Hayley was preparing to take the final portion of Brookville when something unexpected happened.

One of their armored vehicles disappeared. It had gone missing at the border between Brookville and Crestford.

“What’s going on with Vehicle Seven?” Hayley asked in her office, eyes fixed on the frontline reports. “Why haven’t we heard from it?”
