The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 670

Chapter 670

Scott glanced at the stalls surrounding Hayley.

“Drag out everyone involved in the market and execute them,” he said calmly. “Starting today, Tomorrow Haven bans the meat market. No more cannibalism. Anyone who breaks that rule can be killed on the spot. Bring the proof to me, and I’ll reward you with supplies.”

Hayley watched him. She didn’t feel even a trace of mercy or relief.

Scott was still Scott.

“You think saying that suddenly cleans up your whole base?” she asked.

“Captain Reid,” Scott replied mildly, “you understand this better than anyone. People only start talking about morals when their stomachs are full. If the people here had enough to eat, would they really sink this low? / Doesn’t that mean you should help us instead?”

“You just said your base doesn’t lack supplies,” Thomas cut in.

Scott glanced at Thomas again. This time, there was a clear flicker of impatience in his eyes.

Before he could respond, Hayley spoke.

“I’ll agree to your terms, but you’d better not be lying to me. And my people had better still be alive. Otherwise, I promise you’ll pay for it. Worse than last time.”

Hayley had agreed.

Right now, Derek and the others mattered more than anything else. Once they were safe, she could deal with Scott

and this settlement.

Her people couldn’t be missing. Every single one of them had to make it back.

“Relax,” Scott said easily. “I’m not lying. But whether they’re safe or not… I honestly don’t know.”

He glanced up at the dimming sky.

“It’s getting late. Why don’t you stay here tonight?”

“No,” Hayley said immediately. “Take me to where Derek and the others disappeared. Right now.”

Scott nodded without hesitation. “Alright.”

He turned and started walking toward the gate, motioning for Hayley to follow.

Behind them, the people who had been running the meat market were dragged forward by Scott’s men.

They were hauled out like chickens. Blades rose and fell. One by one, they were executed in front of everyone.

“Watch carefully,” someone shouted coldly. “This is what happens to anyone who runs another meat market. From today on, it’s forbidden!”

The harsh voice echoed across the settlement.

All the residents stood there silently. Not one of them spoke.

Hayley didn’t feel any sense of justice from the scene. All she felt was that this was a pack of wolves, ruled by the strongest wolf of them all.

That was truly Scott’s base.

Thomas and Griffin watched the executions without saying a word and followed Hayley.

Winona hurried along behind them, gripping Hayley’s hand tightly.

“It’s okay,” Hayley told her quietly. “I’m here.”

The girl lowered her head. No one knew what she was thinking

Scott glanced back when he noticed her.

“And this is?”

“My new little tagalong,” Hayley said casually.

“She’s from my base?” Scott asked.

“I bought her with food.”

Scott didn’t say anything else after that. He simply kept walking.

First, he led them to Vehicle Seven.

Hayley climbed in and searched through it carefully. There were no signs of a fight inside.

Scott explained that he had found the vehicle near a canyon. There were traces of people nearby, but no bodies or survivors. So he had driven the vehicle back.
