Chople 677
Chapter 677
“Zombies happened,” Derek said, “There’s a level six or higher Zombie King out here”
His expression stayed tight as he explained what had happened
They had been clearing zombies all the way to this canyon. At first, it looked empty tip zombies no people. They figured it was just another routine sweep.
Then they heard people calling for help.
That group turned out to be Laurel, Felix, and the others.
Back then, there weren’t just four of them. There were nine in total, trapped inside the estate. When they saw Derek’s team, they were practically screaming for their lives.
Derek and the others moved in to help.
But the moment they entered the canyon, everything went sideways.
They ran into a high-level mental-variant zombie, along with a massive swarm. The zombies came at them fast, chasing them down hard.
A level-six zombie was no joke.
They had no choice but to abandon the vehicle and retreat back into the estate.
The losses hit immediately.
Out of the five of them, one soldier stayed behind to hold the line and buy time.
It was the zombie Hayley had seen earlier.
After Hayley heard the full story, her opinion of Laurel’s group dropped even lower. They shouldn’t have saved those people, not at the cost of one of her men.
“Have you forgotten what I’ve been telling you?” Hayley looked at Derek and Ethan, who lowered their
heads.
They looked like students who knew they had messed up.
Hayley had said it countless times. They should help people, but not at the expense of their own lives,
She wasn’t reckless. And she wasn’t soft
When she ran into survivors, she never promised to save them.
She would give them a chance. If they could make it, they could follow her. If they couldn’t, she didn’t step in
In this world, saving people came with a price. One mistake and you could drag yourself down with them.

Hayley could keep others alive, but only if it didn’t threaten her own survival. The second it did, she
would cut them loose
Seeing Derek’s team nearly wiped out because of this, she wasn’t happy.
“We’re sorry, Boss!
Derek spoke first, and then the rest echoed him, even the two lying in bed.
Hayley let out a slow sigh
“You didn’t just put yourselves in danger. You forced someone else to come save you and risk the sam thing all over again. In the apocalypse, you protect yourself first. Always.”
“We understand.”
They kept their heads down.
In this world, there were only two people whose words they followed without question: Liam and Hayley
“Get some rest. I’ll take watch tonight.”
She turned and headed for the door.
