Chapter 705

Miranda didn’t touch anything else. She dug into the stew-soaked rice, finishing the whole bowl in no
time.
It was too good!
The fat coated her mouth and her tongue; that deep, heavy flavor she hadn’t tasted in years hit all at once. It felt almost unreal.
Before all this, girls like her avoided greasy food. No fried stuff, nothing heavy. Everything had to be light, clean, and healthy.
But after four years like this, she could’ve gnawed through a chunk of solid fat without hesitation.
Her body needed it.
Day after day of boiled greens with a pinch of salt left her feeling hollow.
Who wouldn’t crave something oily?
The smell alone was enough. Miranda ate as if she hadn’t seen real food in a lifetime, shoveling it in without stopping.
People nearby couldn’t ignore it anymore. The few who had been talking earlier hurried over.
“Miranda, why do you get to eat?”
“You guys, just join them already!” she said between bites. “Join and you get to eat like this!”
She finished her bowl of rice soaked in broth in no time, then scooped herself another ladle, adding a whole chunk of potato, golden and steaming.
The moment it landed in her bowl, her eyes lit up. She bit straight into it, skin and all.
The potato split open instantly, releasing its rich, earthy flavor, its soft flesh breaking apart as it soaked up the broth. The people nearby couldn’t help but stare, watching as her bite revealed the fluffy interior beneath the thin skin, each mouthful falling apart under her teeth.
“Join what?”
“Their league!” Miranda said, still eating. “Follow that woman, and you’ll eat like this every day. It’s so good!”
“I’m inf
“Me too!”
“Count me in!”
One after another, they spoke up.

Hayley waved them over without hesitation. Anyone who joined could sit and eat. Before long, the space around the pot was packed.
Further back, a larger group stood watching, hungry but hesitant to step forward.
Roxanne, still sore from earlier, caught the smell as well.
Her expression twisted.
How was Hayley still eating this well?
She wanted it, too.
After taking in five new people, Hayley stepped back and stopped eating, leaving the pot to them.
They didn’t even bother waiting for the food to cook properly. They were basically drinking the broth, scooping up half-cooked pieces with it, gulping everything down.
The pot emptied fast.
They poured in water, scraped the sides, and boiled it again.
At that point, Hayley, Griffin, and Winona didn’t touch it anymore.
Even Laurel and Felix, who hadn’t been out of hardship for long, couldn’t bring themselves to eat it like that. Once you’d had better, you couldn’t go back.
Right then, a big, heavyset guy came running over, drawn by the smell.
“Smells good… Smells so good…”
He rushed straight to the pot. Right in front of everyone, he dumped his own bowl into it; half-eaten fish, boiled greens, even bones. After that, he grabbed the pot and took off.
“Stop him!”
“Don’t let him get away!”
Miranda and the others shouted, rushing after him. They caught up quickly, grabbing him and wrestling
the pot back.
The big guy burst into loud, wailing cries the moment it was taken from him.
“Boss, that’s Hugo, Kieran’s grandson. He’s not right in the head.”
