Chapter 726
Hayley paused. “Actually, yeah, that sounds about right.
“Did she have those flirty eyes, too?” Ruby continued. “Like she’s trying to hit on everyone?”
“First part checks out,” Hayley said. “Second part, I don’t know. She had a terrible temper. Acted like everyone owed her something.”
“Diana!” Ruby snapped, her expression turning sharp. “It has to be Diana!”
“Who is she?”
“My ex’s mistress!” Ruby’s teeth clenched. “We were in the same association. She was always trying to steal everything from me, my projects, my funding, my research, and even my man! She never actually succeeded at any of it, but she kept causing trouble, smearing my name and trashing my work. The worst part? She kept sending my ex steamy texts and nudes!”
“And what did he do?” Hayley asked.
“He asked around about a virus on his phone,” Ruby said flatly, “then forwarded everything to a group chat.”
Hayley blinked.
That was bold.
“Even then, she didn’t quit,” Ruby continued. “She kept pursuing him and spreading rumors about me. Said I was cheating, juggling multiple guys, all kinds of nonsense.”

Hayley thought about the slaps she had given Diana yesterday.

“I already handled her a bit for you,” Hayley said. “Gave her a few hits yesterday.”
Ruby’s anger finally cracked into a smile. “Good. That’s my girl! Next time you see her, hit her again for me.”
Hayley met Ruby’s eyes. “Next time I see her, I’ll kill her

Just then, Alex rushed in. “Hayley!”
“What is it?”

“Our naval fleet found something.”
Hayley followed him to the office.
Alex pulled up a digital map. “You remember we sent a fleet out to secure that offshore oil field?”
“Yeah. Did we take it?”
“No.” He zoomed in. “Someone else already has it.”
“Who?”
“This island.”
He pointed to a marked location.
“Our fleet spotted a large population there. They’re fully equipped, with plenty of supplies and really high living standards. They’ve built fortified walls. That’s not a random survivor group. They were prepared before everything fell apart.”
Hayley narrowed her eyes. “Did we make contact?”
“We did. They said they’re the Sovereign Academy.”
