Chapter 740

Hayley stood in front of a towering iron gate, easily over ten feet high, grand enough to feel like the entrance to a fortress. Even the guard booths looked like military-grade sentry posts.
But there wasn’t a single competent guard left inside.
Her gaze settled on one of the booths with its door hanging open.
The main gate was still locked, but the booth door was broken. Both the front and back booth doors had been wrecked, and one of them was hanging halfway off its frame.
“Through the guard booth!”
Hayley jumped in first. Once inside, she made it into Clearwater Residences without trouble. She scanned the area, her eyes landing on a stalled car near the entrance.
She ran over and grabbed the car door.
Bang!
A zombie’s hand slammed against the window.
There was still a zombie inside.
It was a man in his 30s, dressed in a sharp suit and tie. Before the apocalypse, he had probably been one of the city’s elite.
Now, the zombie’s face was corpse-pale, its cloudy eyes locked onto Hayley as it let out guttural growls, lunging toward the passenger-side window.
But the seatbelt held it tightly. No matter how hard it strained, it could only reach the glass.
Hayley glanced over the interior, then, with a loud crack, ripped the passenger door clean off. She swung it around and tossed it back toward the guard booth.
“Block it up!”
The others rushing in heard her and quickly caught the door. Three of them were strength-enhanced, and handling a door that weighed over 100 pounds was nothing to them.
Tyler braced the removed door against the guard booth entrance.
Then came the back doors, the trunk lid, the roof panel, and even the front door. One by one, everything
was torn off.
Hayley worked fast, stripping the car down with brute force while the others hauled the pieces over, stacking them tightly to seal the booth entrance.
Soon, the entire opening was packed solid.

Finally, Hayley shoved what was left of the car, just its bare frame, and slammed it into place.
The elite zombie in the driver’s seat was crushed on the spot, its skull collapsing until even its crystal core was forced out.
At last, the guard booth was completely sealed.
Everyone who had made it inside let out a breath of relief.
There were still zombies inside Clearwater Residences, but compared to outside, the numbers weren’t
even close.
Hayley cut down around 100, and after that, the area was mostly clear.
Of course, the buildings still had zombies. As she walked through the upscale complex, she could hear the muffled growls echoing from every building. All of them were trapped inside.
She headed toward the far end of the property, to a building closest to the Somervale Financial Center.
“We’ll rest here for now.”
Hayley had Griffin break the lock on the building’s main entrance.
But this place had one unit per floor, with private elevator access straight into each residence. Without a key card, there was no way up.
Even with one, it wouldn’t matter. The power was out.
So Hayley chose a ground-floor unit instead. Griffin forced the door open, and they went inside.
They got lucky. There were no zombies in this unit, and it had clearly been lived in before. The place was fully furnished, and they even found some food.
“Boss! There’s still stuff in the kitchen! It hasn’t gone bad!” Tyler called out loudly.
Hayley walked into the kitchen and looked over what they had found.
There were unopened supplements, things like vitamins, protein powders, honey, and dried goods that were still good to eat. The more delicate stuff, like premium seafood, had long since spoiled and broken down. There were also some drinkable items left, including alcohol and soda.
The soda had gone flat years ago, the flavor off.
But it didn’t matter. As long as it was drinkable.
Tyler and the others each grabbed a bottle and took a swig of four-year-old flat soda, their faces lighting
“Still good!”

Chapter 741
Tyler and the others hadn’t had a sip of soda since the apocalypse began.
The expired cola had lost its fizz, leaving behind nothing but sweetness and a faint off taste. But ever that was enough to hit their taste buds hard. It gave them a sense of satisfaction they had never experienced.
“This is so damn good!”
“Man, this tastes amazing!”
“Boss, you should have some, too!”
Tyler handed a couple of bottles over to Hayley and Griffin.
“We’re good,” Hayley said, glancing at the pile of food they had found on the floor. “You guys split it.”
She turned and walked off.
The moment she said that, everyone’s eyes lit up as they stared at the spread.
So much good stuff.
And Hayley didn’t even want any of it.
What kind of person would just give all that up without a second thought?
“She’s so generous!”
“You think? That’s Ms. Reid we’re talking about, Tyler said
“Who even is she, really?”
They couldn’t help but think back to the first time they met Hayley
Back then, a whole group of rough looking people had shown up at their carry, every one of ikk looking like trouble Hayley had just lifted a hand, and they had all hailen in line and left

They quickly divided up the supplies and headed out.
Outside, Hayley had already searched the entire unit.
She found three closets full of designer handbags, a whole case of jewelry, ten pounds of gold, stacks cash covering an entire bed, and all kinds of antiques and luxury items. There was even a dedicated wine cabinet filled with bottles she didn’t recognize.
Being the practical kind of leader she was, Hayley packed up everything valuable.
Except for the cash.
Money didn’t mean a thing anymore. At most, it was good for one thing: burning.
Using the cookware in the apartment, she built a fire right in the living room and fed stacks of cash inte the flames. Bills went in one bundle after another.
She pulled out ten packs of instant noodles, three one-pound bags of meatballs, and added some vegetables and eggs. Soon, everyone was gathered around the pot, eating together
As for where the food came from, she didn’t explain.
No one asked.
Hayley was a boss with more gifts than they could count. That said it all.
They stared at the steaming pot, swallowing hard.
At that moment, thunder rumbled outside.
The sky darkened fast, the light inside fading until the only thing left was the flicker of fire as the center
of the room

Hayley was just about to stand when a sudden noise broke out right at their door.
Crash!
The locked door was forced open from the outside.
Everyone froze, bowls still in hand, as they stood up.
Even the door Griffin had secured without a scratch had been broken open by whoever was outside

Chapter 742
There was a lockpicker outside, tool
A crowd suddenly rushed in.
“Shut the door
Men and women poured through the entrance in a frenzy. Right behind them, zombies came chargi their growls closing in fast.
One of them was speed enhanced. Its pale gray eyes bulged and its mouth stretched wide open, its whole face twisting into something grotesque as it lunged forward
“Raarh!”
It threw itself at the last two people still trying to make it inside.
“Close it!”
A man who had already made it in glanced back coldly at the two lagging behind, the ones who had drawn the zombie with them. He grabbed the solid wood door and started to slam it shut
At that exact moment, a woman in the middle suddenly shoved the person beside her and lunged forward, slipping through the doorway.
