Chapter 741

Tyler and the others hadn’t had a sip of soda since the apocalypse began.

The expired cola had lost its fizz, leaving behind nothing but sweetness and a faint off taste. But even that was enough to hit their taste buds hard. It gave them a sense of satisfaction they had never experienced.

“This is so damn good!”

“Man, this tastes amazing!”

“Boss, you should have some, too!”

Tyler handed a couple of bottles over to Hayley and Griffin.

“We’re good,” Hayley said, glancing at the pile of food they had found on the floor. “You guys split it.”

She turned and walked off.

The moment she said that, everyone’s eyes lit up as they stared at the spread.

So much good stuff.

And Hayley didn’t even want any of it.

What kind of person would just give all that up without a second thought?

“She’s so generous!”

“You think? That’s Ms. Reid we’re talking about,” Tyler said.

“Who even is she, really?”

They couldn’t help but think back to the first time they met Hayley.

Back then, a whole group of rough-looking people had shown up at their camp, every one of them looking like trouble. Hayley had just lifted a hand, and they had all fallen in line and left.

Later, when she went into the inner camp with them, the strength she showed, even casually, was way beyond anything they could match

“All I know is, she’s someone worth following,” Tyler said, eyes shining

The others nodded without hesitation

Yeah

All this time, she had been looking out for them, leading them through a city full of zombies without abandoning a single person.

She was the real deal, someone worth sticking with

They quickly divided up the supplies and headed out.

Outside, Hayley had already searched the entire unit.

She found three closets full of designer handbags, a whole case of jewelry, ten pounds of gold, stacks of cash covering an entire bed, and all kinds of antiques and luxury items. There was even a dedicated wine cabinet filled with bottles she didn’t recognize.

Being the practical kind of leader she was, Hayley packed up everything valuable.

Except for the cash.

Money didn’t mean a thing anymore. At most, it was good for one thing: burning.

Using the cookware in the apartment, she built a fire right in the living room and fed stacks of cash into the flames. Bills went in one bundle after another.

She pulled out ten packs of instant noodles, three one-pound bags of meatballs, and added some vegetables and eggs. Soon, everyone was gathered around the pot, eating together.

As for where the food came from, she didn’t explain.

No one asked.

Hayley was a boss with more gifts than they could count. That said it all.

They stared at the steaming pot, swallowing hard.

At that moment, thunder rumbled outside.

The sky darkened fast, the light inside fading until the only thing left was the flicker of fire in the center

of the room.

“Close the curtains,” Hayley said.

“On it!”

Tyler rushed over and pulled them shut.

By the time he got back, the food was boiling.

“It’s ready! It’s ready!”

“Boss, you go first!”
