The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 747

Chapter 747

Seeing that the woman was still moving, the others scattered again.

Every single one of them stared at her in fear, then slowly turned to look at Preston.

Preston looked down at the woman, her body torn open, still begging through the pain. “Kill her. Now.”

“Boss, she’s still alive…”

“You want to wait until she turns?” Preston snapped, glaring at him. “Do it. Now!”

At his command, they hesitated for a second, then tightened their grips on whatever weapons they had and brought them down hard on her head.

Hayley’s view shifted, blocked by someone stepping in front of her.

“Don’t look.”

Griffin’s voice came from beside her.

She glanced at him, then gave a small nod and sat back down.

On the other side, everyone who had just done the killing looked a mess, covered in blood. The air was

thick with the smell of it.

“Clean up the bodies,” Hayley said. “And clean yourselves up, too. No blood smell left here, or you’ll draw

more of them in.”

From outside, low growls and pounding echoed against the door. The zombies were hitting it over and over. Luckily, the doors in Clearwater Residences were solid and made of thick hardwood. They didn’t

budge.

Preston heard her and barked out orders. “Drag the bodies into the cabinets!”

The entryway was lined with tall built-in shoe cabinets.

Following his lead, they hauled the three mangled bodies over and shoved them inside.

Jocelyn and another woman dragged the one whose stomach had been ripped open. Her abdomen was split wide, and what was left of her stomach hung out, spilling half-digested mush onto the floor

They both recognized it.

The canned meat from earlier that day.

Jocelyn stared at it for a second, then looked away.

What a waste.

They shoved the body into a cabinet and shut the door.

Before stepping away, Jocelyn grabbed a pair of oversized men’s sneakers from inside and pulled them

It didn’t matter if they fit or who wore them before.

At least she had shoes.

Once she had them on, she glanced over.

On the other side, Hayley’s group had already settled in.

Each person had a clean blanket and was stretched out across the couches they had pushed together. They had eaten, and they were now resting comfortably.

Meanwhile, she had been running around nonstop, working, and she still wasn’t even full.

“Go clean up,” Preston ordered. “You, make us some water. We’ll rinse off in turns.”

“Boss, I can’t make that much water…”

“Whatever you can! Start with me,” Preston said.

He found a large glass fish tank by the entryway. The water inside had long since evaporated, leaving behind dried-out fish stuck to the bottom. He dumped it out and had his guy start filling it.

The man spent half an hour just to fill it halfway, his face pale from exhaustion.

Preston took the first share, letting everyone have a sip, then used the water to wash his hands and face.

One by one, the others followed.

By the time it got to Jocelyn, the water had turned dark red and murky, reeking worse than a sewer.

She stood there, staring at it.

Then she looked over again.
