Chapter 749
“Get over here.”
Jocelyn flinched when her name was called. She got up and followed Preston deeper into the entryway.
“What were you to them before?” he asked.
“We were assigned to the same dorm,” Jocelyn said honestly.
“What gifts do they have? What are they hiding?”
“Tyler and Emerson are speed-enhanced. Garrick, Barnaby, and Willow are strength-enhanced,” she answered, telling him everything she knew. “The guy with the eyepatch, I don’t know him. I have no idea how he’s connected to them.”
“Forget him. That woman, what’s she really capable of?”
Jocelyn looked at Preston and said something that clearly shook him.
“She has a lot of gifts.”
“A lot? How many?”
Right then, a burst of gunfire crackled from outside.
They had heard gunshots the night before, too. Every time it happened, it meant chaos somewhere nearby.
Last night, it had all been far off. It hadn’t affected them.
Now…
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The shots were getting closer.
Hayley moved to the window and cracked it open just enough to look outside. A large group of people was running straight toward the building, with a swarm of zombies chasing them.
“Douglas! Look at that building!” A woman in the group shouted, waving her gift wildly to clear a path. There are zombies everywhere over there! We can’t go that way. We need to stay clear!”

“No,” Douglas Snee said, locking onto the far corner building she pointed at. “That’s exactly where we’re going.”
“Why?”
His eyes were fixed ahead. “Someone’s there. That makes it safer.”
From the first floor, Hayley watched the entire group sprinting straight toward them. She nearly lost it.
