Hayley’s fighting technique was on another level.

It was Douglas’s first time actually seeing Hayley in action. As he watched that blade work, something he had never seen before in his life, his eyes trembled slightly.

“She definitely has speed and strength enhancement.”

“Yeah,” Preston agreed immediately.

And both were at a very high level.

“Move!” Preston shouted as soon as Hayley cleared the zombies at the entrance and rushed out.

Douglas snapped out of it and hurried after her with his group.

Hayley sprinted straight toward the northwest corner, heading for the Somervale Financial Center.

The zombies that had gathered near the windows inside the complex started to follow her, drawn in by

the movement.

But because she was running in front, with Preston and Douglas trailing behind, the ones in the rear ended up getting boxed in as more zombies caught up.

Following someone meant you didn’t have to lead, but running in the back meant you were the one getting chased. Preston and Douglas’s people had no choice but to fight as they ran, cutting down zombies closing in on them.

Hayley glanced back at the crowd now holding off the horde for her.

“Now! Climb!”

The moment Preston and Douglas saw Hayley’s group heading for the wall, it hit them.

All their scheming had been for nothing.

They had planned to use her. Instead, they ended up shielding her from the zombies. They had been outplayed.

They cursed in their hearts.

There was no gate at the northwest corner. Just a row of walls about six and a half feet high, topped with barbed wire.

The power had long since gone out, so there was no risk of getting shocked, but they still had to deal with the sharp wire.

Hayley hoisted Griffin up first.

He wore one of their league’s polymer combat suits. The material held up even against the barbed wire

“Griffin, check the other side.”

“We’re clear!” Griffin yelled.

He dropped down and looked ahead at the scattered zombies beyond the wall

With him scouting, Hayley kicked off the wall and pulled herself up in one smooth motion.

Bringing Griffin along had its advantages, especially in a place like this. His condition alone made things

easier.

The moment Hayley dropped to the other side, the zombies that hadn’t reacted before suddenly turned and started moving toward her.

“Move! Hurry!” she called back over the wall.

As her voice carried, Tyler and Barnaby scrambled up next.

Their clothes weren’t as durable, but they had layered enough that only the fabric snagged on the wire. Once they got up, they reached down to help the others.

Hayley cut down five more zombies in quick succession as more started closing in from the street.
