Chapter 754
Hayley led her people toward the door
Preston, Douglas, and the others were already gathered there. The moment they saw her coming, they stepped aside and cleared a path,
She didn’t acknowledge them. She simply nodded at Griffin.
“Open it.”
Griffin pulled the door open.
There were no zombies right outside.
When Douglas’s group had rushed in yesterday, they had cleared out everything near the entrance. Now, the rest were stuck beyond the building doors.
Griffin looked out over the ground, now riddled with bodies.
Among them, one straggler still twitched. Just a head left, hacked clean off, dragging a length of torn, bloody tissue as it struggled weakly through the pile.
It let out a broken growl, jaws snapping toward the doorway.
Thud!
Griffin kicked it out of sight.
“We’re clear.”
Hayley gave a small nod and stepped forward, moving through the field of corpses.
As she passed, her eyes landed on a skeleton that had been picked completely clean.
That had been one of Preston’s people, abandoned when they forced their way in days ago.
There wasn’t a shred of flesh left.
The bones were scored with bite marks. The hands were the worst. Ten fingers, seven torn off at the tendons, each one gnawed down to nothing. Pieces of crushed finger joints were scattered nearby.
It was brutal.
These zombies had been starving for a long time.
Anyone who fell into a horde now wouldn’t even get the chance to turn. They would be eaten down to nothing.
Her gaze lifted to the double security doors ahead.
Clearwater Residences had been one of Somervale’s top-tier residential complexes. At least the security

held up. The doors had lasted two full days.
Beyond the reinforced glass, zombies packed in tight.
Most of them had been drawn toward the first-floor windows by the noise she made earlier. Only about
20 remained at the door now.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
They pressed against the glass, cloudy eyes wide, swaying as they stared at the people inside
After two days of nonstop rain, every one of them was soaked through. Thick, dark fluid slid down the glass, streaking past their pale faces and smearing the view.
“Raarh!”
They pounded against the door, excited by the presence of living people.
“Stay close,” Hayley said to the group, stepping toward the entrance without looking back. “If you fall behind, I’m not coming back for you.”
“Got it, boss.”
“Got it.”
Tyler and the others answered immediately.
“Griffin. Open it.”
The door swung inward.
The moment it cracked open, the zombies surged forward like a wave.
Then, there was a flash of cold steel.
Hayley was so fast that she left afterimages in everyone’s vision.
Her blade work was grounded in the combat skills she had learned and sharpened through real fights. Those techniques came from the system. They were precise, polished, and unlike anything any of them
had ever seen.
