The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 758

Chapter 758

“Help us!”

The crowd saw Hayley’s group turning to leave and started shouting all at once.

“Please, help!”

Hayley didn’t even spare them a glance. She picked up her pace and headed straight inside.

“If you won’t save us, don’t think you’re getting away either!”

Seeing how cold she was, Preston yanked a gun from his pocket and aimed it at her.

Bang!

A shot cracked through the air.

If she wouldn’t save them, then she could die with them.

So what if she had all those gifts? He had a gun.

She could go to hell!

Then something happened that made his eyes widen.

The bullet stopped three yards in front of Hayley, as if it had slammed into an invisible wall.

“That’s all you’ve got, and you think you can threaten me?” Hayley said, already stepping into the building.

Around her, zombies surged like a rising tide, dragging themselves forward. But no matter how many came, every single one was held back by that unseen barrier.

From behind the swarm, Preston and the others stared, their eyes stretched wide in disbelief.

Refusing to accept it, Preston fired again and again until his magazine ran dry.

Every bullet hung frozen in midair.

Jocelyn’s words flashed through their minds. Hayley had abilities even she couldn’t explain.

She had at least eight different gifts, and not just the basic ones.

The gunshots echoed, drawing even more zombies toward Preston and the others. One by one, their people were dragged down, screams cut short, until only a handful of them remained

Facing the oncoming horde, Preston and Douglas shouted, “Save us! If you don’t, we’ll blow ourselves up! You can stop bullets, but can you stop that?”

Hayley stopped.

With a sharp motion, she pulled the glass doors shut and slid the lock into place with a hard click Her

eyes were ice-cold as she watched them.

She wasn’t leaving today until she saw them die.

Preston and Douglas saw her stop, but she didn’t move to help.

Something in them snapped.

They started gathering their energy, preparing to self-destruct right there.

They were all level 3 Gifted. Even if the blast didn’t kill Hayley, it would be enough to shatter the glass doors of the financial center. Once that happened, she would end up just like them, torn apart by

zombies.

If they were going down, they would take her with them.

Just as Preston steeled himself and pushed all his power toward detonation, he caught sight of Hayley through the glass.

A faint smile curved across her otherwise cold face.

She lifted a hand and said nonchalantly, “I also have a pulse-type gift.”

She kept it for last to send them off.

Hayley was never a good person. The fact that she didn’t go out of her way to hurt people was already

her version of restraint.

Crossing her was like picking a fight with a vengeful reaper who never let anything slide. Ever.

In the next instant, the energy Preston had built up vanished completely.

He froze.

Then he saw the same shock mirrored in Douglas and Celia’s eyes.

Every bit of power that all of them had been gathering disappeared. They were just ordinary people now

Even if they wanted to blow themselves up, Hayley wouldn’t give them the chance.

Only then did they truly understand the gap between them.

To her, they were nothing more than ants, and they had dared to provoke her

Regret and disbelief filled their faces as they stared at the woman behind the glass
