Chapter 778

Zach took the lead, moving forward carefully into the station.

William Hurlbutt and Spencer flanked him on both sides, while June and Fiona Larson followed close behind.

“You two stay behind me,” June said, glancing back at Hayley, her bright eyes full of protectiveness.

It was obvious she saw Hayley and Griffin as the weak ones.

After all, without their help, she figured two people with no car and no gear would’ve been dead by now.

Hayley didn’t know whether to laugh or argue. With someone clearing the way, she wasn’t about to refuse. She followed steadily behind them, step by step, heading into the main hall.

The station lobby was a mess.

Old, dried blood stained the floors, and luggage was scattered everywhere.

Of the two front doors, one was half-shattered, and the other was simply gone.

Inside the hall, there was only one zombie. It was chained near the restroom, cuffed in place.

The green-skinned zombie caught the scent of the living and twisted its head toward them, letting out hoarse, broken snarls.

Its entire face had turned a sick, poisoned shade of green-black. Its bulging, bloodshot eyes were surrounded by clusters of swollen pustules, large and small, like something had laid eggs beneath the skin. The biggest ones were as thick as a pinky finger, dark and rotting deep into the bone, packed with writhing white and black specks.

The worst part was its hands.

After being restrained for years, the wrists had long since worn through. Skin, muscle, tendons, and even bone had been ground away. At the broken edges of the wound, a section of stark white bone was exposed.

The bone was covered in scratches from the stainless steel cuffs.

When the zombie saw them, it lunged wildly.

The cuffs rattled loudly as it yanked against them, bone grinding harshly against metal.

“Raarh!”

Whoosh!

An arrow wrapped in flames shot through the air and straight into its open mouth. The shot pierced clean through its head, and fire instantly engulfed it.

As the zombie shrieked, Zach followed up with a blast of water, slamming into its burning head. The flames were extinguished. and so was the zombie.

June jogged over, pulling the arrow free along with the crystal core embedded inside.

“All done.”

She held up the crystal like a trophy, showing it off to Hayley. In just a few quick moves, they had taken down the zombie. With strength like that, she clearly expected Hayley and Griffin to be impressed

Hayley just gave her a small nod and a faint smile.

“Don’t celebrate yet.”

Zach’s voice cut in as he scanned the entire station.

The South Rail Station was built right next to a bus terminal, both sharing a massive open plaza. Beyond the plaza sat a large underground mall, and behind that was the bus station.

Right now, there were no zombies left inside. Even the huge plaza outside was completely empty.

They could leave if they wanted, but night had already fallen.
