The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 786

Whoosh!

Whoosh!

From within the blazing fire came the sharp, familiar sound of arrows cutting through the air. Each shot carried enough force to blast back the tightly packed zombies ahead, tearing open a path through the swarm.

Zach and the others stared in shock at the figures charging through the burning sea of corpses.

“Zach, since when did June get this strong?” William blurted, his mouth hanging open.

Zach didn’t answer. He was too busy staring, stunned, at the silhouettes pushing through the flames.

Since when was June’s fire ability this powerful? How the hell did he not know?

Beside him, Fiona’s eyes were wide, but she wasn’t even looking at June. Her gaze was locked on the tall figure behind her, hair pulled into a high ponytail.

The fire wasn’t June’s.

It came from the woman who had joined their team halfway through, the one with a vague background, the one who didn’t seem to have much offensive power at all.

It was her!

Fiona’s expression turned complicated in an instant.

Before Hayley showed up, Fiona and June had been the only two girls on the team.

June didn’t really count, though. With Zach as her brother and her easygoing personality, nobody treated her like a girl.

Everyone took care of Fiona. They gave her priority and made sure she was looked after first.

But ever since Hayley joined yesterday, Fiona could feel the shift. People’s attention had started drifting away from her.

Fiona had felt jealous. Then June, clueless as ever, even helped Hayley first when assigning routes.

How was she supposed to feel good about that?

At least before, Hayley hadn’t stood out. She was just a pretty face, nothing more.

But now…

Fiona stared at the raging inferno filling the air.

“Are you guys leaving or what?”

A clear voice cut through the chaos.

Then June shouted, “Move! Hayley’s here to get us out!”

That snapped everyone back to reality.

June shoved aside the cabinet blocking the checkout counter and pulled them into the narrow space behind it, guiding them out

one by one.

Once all three were out, she turned immediately, leading them after Hayley.

Zombies poured in from every direction, flooding the streets and shops until everything was packed with them.

Zach suddenly realized something: every single zombie was being held back by an invisible barrier

They lunged forward with twisted faces, jaws stretched wide. Their bloody mouths gaped open like bottomless pits, ready to tear out their throats, rip into inuscle, split open their stomachs, and drag out their insides.

And yet, they couldn’t get through.

The horde pressed in right up to them, inches away, but no farther.

Zach stared, stunned, then slowly shifted his gaze to Hayley at the front.

She walked through the tide of zombies like it was nothing a blade hanging casually in her hand. Invisible waves of power rolled off her, steady and overwhelming.

Only then did it hit him.

“June, that fire just now… That wasn’t you?”

June looked at him like he had lost his mind. “Did a zombie chew on your brain or something? You think I can do that?”
