The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 788

Chapter 788

The impact behind Zach’s group rang out like thunder, making their ears buzz. The force of it rippled through the ground, shaking their bodies even as they rán.

Up against something like that, the human body felt terrifyingly fragile.

June’s chest pounded violently,

Her heart filled with fear and an overwhelming sense of being completely at the mercy of something far stronger, something

unknown.

It dragged her back to the very beginning, when the zombie virus first broke out.

She was still in college back then.

Her roommate in the bunk below had suddenly snapped, lunging forward and biting straight into the neck of another girl who

had come to check on her.

June still remembered it like it had just happened.

Her roommate had lifted her blood-soaked face, jaws stretched wide, chunks of half-chewed flesh still clinging between her teeth. Strips of meat dangled as she stared straight at June, a wet, horrifying sound coming from her throat.

Over the past four years, the world had been overrun with zombies. Everywhere you looked, people were panicking, barely holding it together.

June had always considered herself a little lucky, maybe even a bit talented, since she had managed to survive and live relatively well in the middle of the apocalypse.

But the zombie she saw today dragged her right back into that suffocating fear of being completely at their mercy.

The only reason any of them were still alive wasn’t strength. It was pure luck.

Without thinking, she turned to look at Hayley.

In the next second, she saw something she would never forget for the rest of her life.

A column of flames shot up, engulfing a woman’s body. She was on fire, the flames roaring around her like a living blaze.

At the same time, the giant zombie swung a massive billboard down toward Hayley, but the blow froze midair right in front of

her.

She had caught it with her bare hands.

The sheer force of it was on the same level as the giant zombie itself.

They held there for two seconds, locked in a dead struggle, before Hayley suddenly tightened her grip, seized the billboard with both hands, and wrenched it straight out of the giant zombie’s grasp.

Wham!

With a heavy slam, she swung it back into the creature.

The metal supports punched through its chest, tearing into its ribs, lungs, heart, and abdomen at crooked angles.

Even so, the giant zombie didn’t seem affected at all. It let out a furious roar, its gray, lifeless eyes turning even more savage as it lunged forward again.

It was unbelievably fast.

But that slender figure roved even faster.

Like a nimble cat, Hayley leapt straight up from where she stood, stepped onto the metal frame embedded in the giant’s chest, and used it as a foothold to launch herself toward its head.

She moved like lightning, so fast that the zombie couldn’t grab her, so fast that the human eye could barely keep up.

With a tearing sound, a saber plunged straight into the center of the giant zombie’s forehead, and the woman drove it in with

brutal force.

The power behind it was overwhelming.

The blade cut through flesh and bone with ease as Hayley gripped the hilt, flipped onto the top of its head, and then finished the

cut in a brutal backward arc.

“Die!”

She stood on top of the giant zombie’s head, her body drawn tight like an archer at full pull. Light seemed to flare behind her, making her look almost untouchable.

Beneath her, the creature’s skull split open.

A surge of yellow-white brain matter mixed with black blood burst out like a flood.

The giant zombie let out a deafening roar of pain, but Hayley’s expression didn’t change in the slightest. No matter how violently it thrashed, she only tightened her grip and drove the blade straight toward the crystal core.
