Hayley’s strength was overwhelming, the kind that left people with no choice but to admire her from below.

“She’s both strength and speed-enhanced,” William said, getting straight to the point. “Her ability levels are way beyond ours. That’s the only reason she could crack that giant zombie’s skull.”

Even after hearing it spelled out, no one reacted.

It was already beyond anything they could really understand. This kind of power wasn’t something they could even begin to

comment on.

“Is she even human?” William muttered again.

“Zach, we saved a god, didn’t we?” June said quietly.

“What are you talking about? She’s the one who saved us. She never needed saving,” Zach shot back.

The other two nodded like crazy. Even Fiona found herself nodding along.

Up front, Spencer glanced at Hayley through the rearview mirror. For once, even his usually cold, detached eyes carried a hint of

respect.

Inside the vehicle, an older voice spoke up.

Kurt watched Hayley carve her way back through the battlefield and couldn’t help asking, “What kind of drug is that girl on?”

“Our Captain Gorgeous?” Griffin’s lazy voice carried a faint grin. “She’s always been like this.”

“Woof, woof!” Even the dog barked twice in agreement.

By the time they finished talking, Hayley was already sprinting back.

She was faster than June and the others who had started running earlier. The moment she got into the vehicle, she checked on

the old man first.

Kurt and the dog were there.

Good.

“Raarh!”

Behind them, the zombie horde surged forward again.

June and the others scrambled inside in a rush.

“Go! Now!” Hayley snapped.

The second she spoke, everyone turned to look at her. Their eyes lit up like they were staring at some idol they couldn’t take their eyes off.

“Hayley, it’s just a few zombies. Aren’t you going to show off a little more?” June said, practically glowing with excitement.

“Show off what? Drive!”

No one had anything to say to that.

Spencer slammed the gas, and the vehicle shot forward, tearing back into the station. Behind them, a massive swann of zombies chased after the car, arms flailing, bodies lurching as they ran.

The SUV blasted through the main hall, sped onto the platform, then dropped down of the edge and onto the tracks, radi along the rails where there were barely any zombies.

Little by little, they started to leave the horde behind.

As they passed the North Rail Station’s platform, a voice suddenly crackled through Hayley’s earpiece.

“Congratulations, No. 7913. Mission complete. Please stop where you are. A helicopter will arrive in 30 minutes to extract you

and Professor K.”

“What about my aunt?” Hayley asked immediately

“Please bring Professor K aboard the helicopter.”

A flash of killing intent crossed Hayley’s eyes. “The hell I will! Where’s my aunt?”

“Please follow instructions. We will ensure your aunt’s safety.”

Hayley took a slow, steady breath. Her gaze shifted to Kurt sitting across from her. A cold smile curled at the corner of her lips.
