The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 791

Chapter 791

Hayley shot Leonard a look. Leonard immediately grabbed the dog, which had just managed to catch its breath, and started dragging it back.

“It’s in my wheelchair!” Kurt blurted out,

Hayley flicked her gaze toward Griffin. He stepped forward, searched quickly, and pulled a sleek black access card from a narro gap in the wheelchair.

S-level, just like she thought.

But this one wasn’t quite the same as the card she had taken off Diana before.

Inside the Sovereign Academy, Diana had also been S-level. Her card carried a faint diamond-shaped pattern.

Kurt’s card, on the other hand, was etched with a subtle triangle.

Hayley caught the detail. “What do the access cards look like for Sovereign Industries?”

The moment she said “Sovereign Industries” out loud, confusion flickered across Kurt’s eyes again. “How do you know all this

“Just answer.”

“Sovereign Industries uses circular markings for access control.”

“And the Sovereign Legion?”

“They use a sword as their symbol.”

Hayley nodded. “Last question. Where are the headquarters of these three divisions?”

“How would I know?”

“I’m making dog meat stew.”

“I really don’t know!” Kurt shouted in a panic. “But I do know where the Sovereign Research Institute is! The Ascendant Creed is split into four divisions, all independent and vertically structured. The Sovereign Research Institute only handles research. Everything we produce gets handed off to Sovereign Industries! I don’t even know where Sovereign Industries is, let alone the Sovereign Legion!”

Hayley listened, then asked, “Where’s the Sovereign Research Institute?”

“It’s 35°69′ north, 131°69′ east.” Kurt spat out the coordinates. 1

“Woof! Woof!”

The moment the dog was released, it rushed back to him.

Kurt pulled it into his arms, his expression softening as he held the companion that had been with him for years, gently smoothing down its fur.

Not long after, the helicopter touched down.

Kurt braced himself. Wherever they were taking him, it had to be something close to hell.

The zombie virus had been catalyzed by the Ascendant Creed. The outside world should’ve been torn apart by now. Any human settlements left had to be miserable beyond belief.

They had run simulations before ever developing the virus, models of what a full outbreak would look like

On day one, over 30% got infected. Day two, 70%. By day three, 90%. Within half a month, 99% had turned.

Four years into the apocalypse, the weak human civilization should’ve been wiped out completely.

Anyone still alive would be starving, cornered by the infected. They would be huddled in scattered little bases like drifting debris, surviving like rats clawing through the dark.

Leaving Fairfield meant stepping straight into hell.

That was what Kurt believed.

The next second, he rolled out of the vehicle and froze.

A clean, open square stretched out in front of him. People moved through it in neat, tidy clothes.

It was early evening. Streetlights flickered on one by one, casting a warm glow. Lights came alive in the houses lining both sides

of the street.

Kurt stared, completely stunned.

This wasn’t anything like what he had imagined. In a disaster this extreme, how could there still be a human settlement like this, standing tall?
