Chapter 790

The SUV sped along the railroad tracks, tires crunching over gravel as it pushed forward.

Before long, a helicopter came into view ahead of Hayley and Zach’s group.

The vehicle rolled to a stop. Armed men jumped out of the helicopter, weapons in hand, moving in to meet them.

Hayley dragged Kurt and his dog out of the SUV. Griffin stepped out last. Surrounded by the armed crew, they were escorted onto the helicopter.

Watching from a distance, June and the others couldn’t help but stare, eyes wide.

“I’m heading out,” Hayley said, stopping in front of the helicopter as she looked at them. “Are you coming with me?”

June immediately glanced at Zach. “Fiona tracked down news that her family might be at a base nearby. We’ve got to check it

out first.” 1

Hearing that, Hayley didn’t press them. She looked at these companions she had only just met, their time together already ending. “Good luck.”

“Thanks.”

Hayley turned and climbed into the helicopter.

Just then, June called out from behind her, “Hayley! You said you’re from Aecraton, right?”

“Yeah.”

“That’s where we’re headed next. We’ll come find you!”

“Alright.” Hayley gave a faint nod. “Use my name.”

“Got it!”

The helicopter blades thundered to life.

June and the others tilted their heads up, watching as it lifted off and disappeared into the distance.

“What do you think Hayley actually is?”

“No idea.”

“How the hell did we end up crossing paths with someone like that?”

They stood there until the helicopter vanished from sight. Then the armored vehicle roared back to life and drove off in the opposite direction.

Everyone had their own path to follow. They met by chance, traveled together for a while, and now split apart again.

Inside the helicopter, Hayley looked over at Kurt.

“Old man, which division are you with?”

Kurt had already figured out this wasn’t one of their organization’s aircraft. A sharp glint flickered in his aged eyes. “You’re not

one of us.”

“I told you already,” Hayley said calmly. “I took you to save my aunt. Your people backed out. So you’d better think snart and switch sides. Do that, and you live.”

Kurt just smiled faintly and said nothing.

“Not cooperating?”

Hayley shot Thomas a look

With a sharp click, Thomas cocked his gun and pressed it against the old man’s forehead.

Kurt closed his eyes immediately, completely unfazed, like he didn’t care whether they pulled the trigger or not.

At his age, he had become a stubborn man who didn’t scare easily. He was completely fearless, as if he had nothing to lose.

When Hayley saw that, her gaze shifted to the dog beside him. The dog met her eyes and whimpered, shrinking back.

Hayley let out a cold laugh. “That’s a nice dog you’ve got. Would make a pretty good campfire stew.”

The moment she said that, Kurt’s eyes snapped open. He lunged forward, spreading his arms to shield the dog.

Thomas slammed a hand down on his shoulder, pinning him in place, while Leonard grabbed the dog.

“Woof! Woof! Whine…” The dog struggled and whimpered in panic.
