The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 800

Chapter 800

Hayley slipped into District Que.

Normally, the workshop district stayed sealed. No one was allowed in or out. Even during shipments, the doors only opened for outgoing goods, and security wasn’t permitted inside. Their own workers handled all transfers

Today, however, Hayley walked in without a single obstacle.

In front of her, workers moved nonstop, hauling crates in steady streams. This batch was all food, such as canned meat, canned

vegetables, and hard tack.

She walked straight through them, but no one reacted. No one even looked at her. It was as if she didn’t exist.

Hayley headed directly for the district manager’s office.

Scott had told her that after bringing Ruby here, he had been reassigned immediately. The rest had been handled by the three managers on-site.

Hayley stepped into the office and went straight to the desk. Piles of documents were stacked across it. She flipped through them one by one.

[Production Acceleration Request: Expedite food supply output for the new Sovereign Academy and Sovereign Research

Institute.

[Employee Handbook: 1. Maintain constant monitoring of worker health conditions…]

Page after page, all routine paperwork.

Nothing useful here.

Then she noticed a work journal tucked inside the desk drawer. She pulled it out and opened it immediately.

[November 7. Clear weather. Received orders from above to increase supply output. The shipment goes out tomorrow. Not a single unit can be missing.

[November 6. Working overtime again, rushing production. So busy and tired.

[November 5. That scum Scott made it back alive, with not a scratch on him. When I heard Sovereign Research Institute got blown up, I thought he had gone with it. What a joke!]

Hayley blinked, at a loss for words.

[November 4. Another day stuck working with Scum. Had a meeting with him today. That smug face makes me sick. I wish he’d just drop dead.]

Hayley didn’t know what to say.

She flipped through several more entries. Every entry was about Scott, cursing him out day after day. Whatever history they had,

it ran deep.

Then again, with how ruthless and cold-blooded Scott was, having enemies made perfect sense.

A thought hit her. She flipped straight to the date Ruby had been taken.

[October 17. Got orders today. We’re detaining an important individual. A woman. I

Hayley’s heartbeat spiked.

There it was. Information about Ruby!

Just then, footsteps approached outside.

“Shipment’s out?”

“Almost. Another half hour, and we’re done.”

“Move faster. Keep an eye on everything. I don’t want any mistakes this time. If Scum catches us skimming supplies again, he’ll blow it out of proportion. That damn Scott, reporting me, threatening me… One day, I’ll get something on him!”
