The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 815

Who was Serum X meant for

Hayley’s thoughts tangled for a second, uncertainty creeping in. However, the footsteps that echoed nearby quickly snapped her

focus back.

She released her mentalvariant ability and shifted into a looping path, weaving around anyone she might run into.

At the same time, she studied the layout.

This level was even bigger than the one above.

Everywhere she looked, there were cages, lined up like some twisted livestock facility, each one holding zombies being drained of blood. Alarms kept going off as the bodies were emptied, but she didn’t see anyone bringing in replacements.

Instead, she caught fragments of a phone call.

The supervisor was urging Scott to hurry. They were completely out of stock, with no raw materials left. Everything had stalled, and they needed a new shipment immediately.

Hayley understood right away.

It was because she had blown up the Sovereign Research Institute and taken that entire batch, cutting off their supply.

The serum was still sitting safely in her inventory.

She moved through the mazelike underground facility, sticking to the edges, avoiding people as she went. Eventually, she

reached the outermost area.

It was 11:55 p.m.

Just then, she heard a voice behind her.

What are you doing?

A man in a white lab coat stared at her, suspicion written all over his face as he stepped closer.

Where’s your team? Why are you wandering around alone?

A goldembossed S hung from his chest.

He was the District Three manager!

As Wally Rowe approached, Hayley kept her head lowered, her brows pulling tighter.

Where’s your access card? What’s your ID number? His tone sharpened, one question after another.

Right then, an idea clicked in Hayley’s mind.

I was delivering something, she said quickly. I found another serum in storage and brought it over for you.

She pulled out a vial from her inventory, one of the serums she had taken from the Sovereign Research Institute.

Wally’s eyes lit up the second he saw it. Whatever suspicion he had vanished instantly.

That’s exactly what we need!He snatched the vial from her hand. Come with me. We’re running the experiment now.

Okay.

Hayley kept her head down and followed behind him.

As they walked, a sweet perfume drifted toward them. A woman appeared ahead, dressed to draw attention.

you again?Wally clearly recognized her, his voice already edged with irritation.

The woman let out a soft, almost spoiled sigh. That daran woman’s getting transferred out tomorrow. This is the last night I’ll have with her. If I don’t come now, I won’t get another chance to make her suffer.

The moment Hayley heard that voice, something in her snapped into focus. She lifted her head.

There she was: Diana.

Don’t go too far tonight,Wally warned. People from upstairs are coming tomorrow. If anything goes wrong, neither of us walks away from it.

Diana had changed clothes, but she still carried that same sultry air, her collar hanging loose.

Relax. I know.
