Just then, someone clamped down hard oir Diana’s wrist.

Diana jolted, but before she could even turn her head, there was a sharp crack. Her wrist snapped like dry wood.

“Ugh!”

Pain exploded through her, sharp and blinding.

Suddenly, her mouth was stuffed with three or four rats.

A hand clamped over her lips, forcing them shut, keeping the writhing rats jammed inside so she couldn’t spit them out or even make another sound.

The next second, there was a sharp crack.

Her other hand was crushed.

Diana froze in pure panic. She scrambled to activate all three of her gifts at once, but nothing responded. It was as if they had all vanished.

Hayley didn’t kill Diana right away.

After crushing both of Diana’s hands, Hayley moved to Diana’s legs. Orle kick after another, she disabled them completely

without hesitation.

“Ugh!”

Diana’s mouth fell open from the pain, her throat stretched wide, only forcing the frantic rats deeper inside.

Hayley drove a hard kick into her lower back. Diana collapsed instantly, her body going limp, unable to move at all.

Hayley tossed her aside and rushed forward to free Ruby.

“Holly…”

The moment Ruby saw her, her eyes, dulled by endless torment, suddenly lit up.

“Aunt Ruby, sorry I’m late.”

Hayley quickly undid the restraints on her wrists and ankles, her breathing deep and uneven as she took in the injuries covering

Ruby’s body.

Ruby didn’t ask anything else. Panic filled her voice instead. “Why are you here? Did they use me to threaten you? You need to leave right now. I’ll be fine. You can’t stay here!”

Even now, after everything she had endured, she was still worried about Hayley.

That only made Hayley’s chest tighten.

“I didn’t fall for their trap. I’m fine,” Hayley said softly as she cleared the maggots from Ruby’s skin. She took out an emergency pill and a dose of Valenex to stabilize Ruby’s condition.

Only then did Ruby relax slightly. “Holly…”

“I’m here now. No one’s going to hurt you again,” Hayley said while treating Ruby’s wounds.

Her movements were steady, though the anger underneath never faded.

Hayley turned sharply, her anger rising all over again. She quickly wrapped Ruby up, then went back and grabbed Diana like she weighed nothing.

Holding back just enough not to kill her outright, Hayley drove her fists into Diana again and again. Bone after bone, she crushed what was left of Diana’s limbs.

Diana passed out from the pain.

But Hayley didn’t let Diana off that easily.

She poured ice–cold water over Diana, forcing her awake, then slapped her across the face again and again until Diana’s eyes opened.

Hayley glanced back at Ruby. “Aunt Ruby, how many times did she do this to you?”

“Holly…”

Behind her, Ruby watched, her eyes brighter than they had been in a long time.
