Chapter 862
Bang!
Bang!
Heavy fire poured down from the helicopter overhead.
Fully armed soldiers hung from both sides of the aircraft, bracing themselves as they unleashed a storm of gunfire into the
horde below.
Boom!
A single-operator missile struck dead center into the pyramid of zombies stacked at the northwest corner.
The explosion ripped through the middle of the pile. Bodies and limbs flew into the air. The towering mass collapsed with a thunderous crash, and waves of zombies tumbled down from the top in a chaotic cascade.
The blast drew the attention of zombies from every direction.
“Raaah!”
“Raaah!”
They broke off from other areas and charged over without hesitation.
The helicopter banked sharply and pulled away, heading about half a mile beyond the base. As it flew, it dropped explosives in steady succession.
The rolling blasts echoed across the field, luring the majority of the zombies away to the open plain.
Up on the walls, the defenders saw their chance.
“Now! Pour the fuel!” the female soldier who had almost been killed shouted.
The moment her voice rang out, people all along the walls sprang into action. They tipped what little gasoline they had left over the edge.
Whoosh!
Flames followed immediately after. With two-thirds of the horde drawn away, the remaining third was quickly swallowed by fire.
Inside the walls, the catapults kept launching stone after stone.
Everyone seized the moment to deliver the final blow
By the time the helicopter circled back from the plain, most of the zombies outside the walls had been reduced to burning piles and crushed remains.
Only a small fraction of the original horde remained, still clawing at the walls.
But that was no longer a real threat to West Sea Base.
Everyone on the city wall was completely drained. When they saw that the siege below had been lifted, they all collapsed where they stood.
‘They couldn’t even move a finger
The siege had lasted over five hours. It was the largest zombie attack they had faced in years. It had started with only a few hundred, but as they fought, more kept coming like waves.

Hundreds turned into thousands, then tens of thousands.
West Sea Base had just over 2,000 people, yet they had been surrounded by a horde more than five times their size.
To make matters worse, their base director was missing. The deputy director, Maisie Willis, had ordered everyone who could still move to fight.
No one dared to hide.
There was nowhere to hide. If the walls fell, everyone would die.
Now, sprawled across the inner side of the walls, the survivors lay in disarray, their hearts pounding violently, their throats dry as if they were on fire.
That was when they heard the steady thrum of helicopter blades.
