The moment Hayley saw the supplies, she didn’t hesitate. She had Griffin move in with her and start collecting everything.

From the doorway, Colin watched as they used their inventory-variant gifts so effortlessly.

It only made him more aware of how capable and efficient they were.

Their base had people with that kind of ability, too.

Leah Berry had the largest storage capacity among them, roughly the size of a small house. Most of the base’s supply transport depended on her. The last time she came here, however, she had already maxed out just carrying canned beef.

What lay in front of them now was at least a hundred times that volume, yet Hayley and her team collected it as though it were nothing.

Colin couldn’t help but look at them with a kind of awe.

The gap between their bases felt like it wasn’t just a difference in strength, but an entirely different level.

Haylight League was on another scale.

Colin followed behind them, still dazed.

As they moved deeper, clearing out the last few storage rooms, Hayley suddenly heard voices ahead.

“Josh, we’re not making it out of this.”

“Leah, don’t lose hope. Maisie will find someone to come save us.”

“Who could she possibly find? Everyone strong in our base is already here. Who else could make it down here? Do you think another base would come? Even if they did, do they have the strength to pull us out of a place full of high-level zombies?”

The woman’s voice fell, and the room next door went quiet for a couple of seconds.

Then, she spoke again.

“Josh… There’s something I need to say. If I don’t say it now, I might never get the chance.”

“Leah, don’t.” A low male voice cut in.

“No. I’m saying it.”

Her voice trembled, but she pushed through.

“Josh, I’ve loved you for 15 years. I’ve been waiting all this time for you to stop loving Maisie, waiting for you to look at me instead. I was willing to keep waiting…but we don’t have much time left. The zombies could break in at any second. Before I die, I just want to be with you. Even if it’s just for a few days… I’d be happy.”

“Stop it!”

“Josh! Maisie isn’t right for you! Don’t you remember? Back when you were at the bottom of the class, she didn’t even look at you. It wasn’t until you beat her in the exams that she finally noticed you, and finally agreed to be with you. She doesn’t love you! She loves your success, your strength! If you had nothing, she wouldn’t stay!”

“Leah!”

“josh, don’t you see it? I’m the only one who truly loves you! No matter who you are, I’ll always love you. I waited 15 years for you. That woman could never do that! If you died, she’d move on in a heartbeat. She wouldn’t come save you! Wake up!”

Her words hung in the air, and the room fell silent again.

Then, footsteps approached from outside.

Hearing that, Leah suddenly snapped. She rushed to the door and grabbed it with both hands.

“Josh! The zombies are coming! Just say yes! If you won’t choose me, then we die together! I can’t live without you loving me!”
