Chapter 894
“No, I don’t know anything!” Hayley yelled. “What exactly is Ascendant Creed trying to do?”
Kurt let out a quiet sigh. “We’re pursuing evolution.”
“Don’t give me that! You’re helping zombies evolve!”
“That’s right.” Kurt turned to look at Hayley, his usually deep gaze now sharp and serious. “We are helping zombies evolve.”
Behind Hayley, Ruby froze, her eyes widening as realization hit her. “You’re trying to create an entirely new civilization.”
Kurt lifted his head slightly and glanced at her. “Yes. We’re building a new one. A zombie civilization.”
The words landed hard.
Hayley’s breath caught. “What zombie civilization?”
Kurt let out a cold laugh.
“If human civilization exists, then so can a zombie one. You’ve seen it yourself. Zombies can evolve.
“In the early stages, they’re chaotic and directionless. As individual zombies evolve, though, they begin t develop a shared awareness. It’s not that different from how humans started. Everything begins in disorder, then slowly builds into what it becomes.
“Our goal in Ascendant Creed is to accelerate that process. We want zombies to form a new civilization.”
Hayley stared at him, trying to process it, but all she felt was disbelief. This wasn’t just extreme. It was beyond anything she could understand.
“Why?”
“Because human civilization is fundamentally limited. Humans are fragile carbon-based lifeforms with too many weaknesses: short lifespans, constant needs, and total dependence on food, water, even air. Just surviving takes up most of their effort, and that alone limits how far civilization can advance.
“But zombies are different.
“They’ve broken free from genetic constraints. They don’t age. They don’t die. Their physical limits are far beyond human thresholds. They’ve developed abilities, gifts that humans can barely comprehend. As they evolve, their potential only keeps expanding. Zombies are a superior form of life.”
Kurt finished and looked at Hayley.
“We’re doing this for the evolution of civilization.”
Hayley stayed silent for a long moment before finally speaking. “So your version of evolution is turning everyone into zombies and letting them take over the world.”

“You could put it that way. Inferior civilizations are always replaced. A zombie civilization will surpass humanity.”
“And what does that have to do with us?!” Hayley snapped. “Don’t forget. You’re human, too!”
Kurt shook his head slowly. “I’m willing to welcome what comes next.”
“What about your dog? You really want to turn into a zombie that would tear it apart piece by piece?”
Kurt fell quiet.
The dog whined and pressed close to him, nudging his palm with its warm head. That simple, living touch made it impossible for him to answer.
After a long moment of absent-mindedly stroking its fur, he finally spoke.
“No matter what, once Ascendant Creed’s new world plan begins, it can’t be stopped. You won’t be able to change anything.”
He turned his wheelchair on his own and started heading out, his dog following close beside him. It looked like he planned to spend whatever time he had left with it.
Hayley didn’t stop him.
