Chapter 909
Human civilization wasn’t something weak.
After finishing all her arrangements across the base, Hayley finally turned her thoughts to the dogs still by her side.
“Summer.”
“Woof! Woof! Woof!”
“Woof! Woof! Woof!”
A dozen dogs rushed toward her all at once, tails wagging as they crowded around her.
While she had been working inside the shelter, they had stayed quiet and well-behaved, not making a sound.
The moment she spoke, they couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Woof!” Summer leapt into her arms and licked her face.
Hayley held him close, a trace of reluctance in her expression. “I’m sending you to Ark One.”
There was no reason to keep them here anymore. They couldn’t be infected. As long as they avoided being caught, they could live out their lives safely.
She needed to send them away.
“Woof, woof!” Summer seemed to understand, his barking growing louder.
“Come on.” Hayley stood, holding him as she headed outside.
The other dogs flowed after her like a stream, whining softly as they stayed close at her heels.
She pushed open the shelter door.
Outside, Griffin, Leonard, and Thomas were standing guard.
“Boss!”
“Boss!”
“Captain Gorgeous.”
All three straightened.
“Where are you going?”
“To send them off.”
Hayley carried Summer to her armored vehicle and opened the door, setting him inside.
The moment his paws touched the floor, he jumped right back out. The other dogs followed immediately.
“Stop right there!” Hayley called out.
Every dog froze mid-step.
“Get in the vehicle!”
Soft whines filled the air.
None of them moved.

“I’m counting to three.” Hayley’s voice was firm, her expression stripped of its usual warmth as she raised a hand. “Three.”
“Woof! Woof”
Tails wagged harder, but they stayed where they were, as if protesting
“I’wo.”
The whining turned softer, almost pleading
“One.”
At the final count, Summer slowly walked back to her side.
He lowered himself, gently biting onto the edge of her pant leg, letting out a quiet, reluctant whimper.
The others followed, gathering at her feet, lying down one after another, each pressing closer, as if trying to tell her not to send
them away.
They had been good.
They always listened.
Leonard and Thomas watched in silence, something heavy settling in their chests. Neither of them could find the words to say anything.
All they could do was watch as Hayley, without hesitation, guided the dogs back into the vehicle one by one, making sure every last one was inside before driving off.
Leonard felt it the most.
