Chapter 916

A long, perfectly straight corridor stretched out before Hayley.

White floors, white walls, and a towering white ceiling overhead. Everything around her was stripped down to a cold, emotionless white that seemed to go on forever.

Hayley followed Scott deeper into the hallway. With every step, she could feel the countless hidden cameras watching from every direction. She knew perfectly well that her every movement was currently being observed by Ascendant Creed.

The corridor stretched for nearly 500 yards.

After walking that full distance, Scott finally pushed open a door in front of her.

The next second, bright blue skies suddenly appeared overhead.

It looked like they had stepped outside into a warm, sunny day, with drifting clouds hanging beneath a clear sky.

But Hayley knew that was impossible.

They were buried deep underground, and when they came down earlier, a blizzard had still been raging outside.

There was no way the sky above them could actually look like this.

Hayley narrowed her eyes and looked closer before finally realizing the truth.

The sky overhead was made entirely from massive electronic screens connected together into a giant curved dome more than 300 feet high.

The screens were simulating perfect weather.

Beneath that artificial sky stood an enormous laboratory straight out of a futuristic sci-fi world.

Five experimental chambers stood directly ahead of her. Inside each one floated a numbered human body suspended in liquid.

Hayley felt like she had stepped into an entirely different world as her gaze moved slowly across every experiment inside the

room.

Suddenly, she spotted someone familiar.

A man floated silently inside one of the chambers with his eyes closed. Tubes covered nearly every part of his body, while his skin looked unnaturally pale and bloodless. A scar ran straight through the center of his chest.

Even now, Hayley still didn’t know his name. Only his number, 5587.

It was the man she had stabbed, the man who had repaid her for opening a bottle of water for him.

Hayley stopped where she was and stared at him.

Without warning, the man slowly opened his eyes. A pair of grayish-white zombie eyes stared straight back at her.

“Raach! Raarh! Raarh!”

Hayley’s heart skipped hard at the sight, and a complicated emotion flickered across her face.

“What exactly are these people?”

Scott glanced back casually at the experimental chambers behind him. “Advanced test subjects. They’re the best candidates selected from Sovereign Academy every year.”

“Damn it!” Fury instantly surged through Hayley. “Do you people seriously not have any humanity left? How would you feel if someone locked you in one of these?”

Sean adjusted his glasses calmly. “That’s a question you should ask them.”

He continued walking forward

After passing the five chambers, another massive door appeared ahead of them. The moment it opened, the entire world around them changed again.

The ht artificial sky vanished, replaced by an endless sea of stars. Even the pure white floor beneath Hayley’s feet turned
