The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 98

After taking down the level3 Gifted zombie, Hayley and Leonard worked together to clear out the remaining scattered zombies in the factory.

Julian and the others ran around, collecting every crystal core they could find.

Hayley didn’t worry about them keeping any for themselves. First, they didn’t even know what the cores did, so no one would think about hoarding them. Second, and more importantly, Hayley had mentalvariant gifts.

She could sense the color of each crystal core. If anyone tried to hide one, she’d know instantly.

Ms. Reid, here’s everything we found!”

Julian handed over all the crystal cores they’d

Hayley scanned the 16 people and confirmed that no one

hiding anything. She nodded with satisfaction.

In total, they had collected 1,208 crystal cores, plus one level3 crystal core.

Count up how many each person collected, and give them points based on that, she instructed.

Points?

Yes. Come with me to my base, and I’ll explain how the points work.

Julian and the others lit up. Finally, they were being taken somewhere safe!

Okay!they cheered.

Hayley found a bunch of cars in the factory. Most were in good shape, just missing keys, but that wasn’t a problem for her. With a few tweaks, she got several vehicles running, enough for everyone to ride in.

Before leaving, she did a thorough sweep of the factory. With Julian leading the way, she quickly found all the production workshops.

This was Aecraton’s largest food factory, churning out tons of products: grains, oil, flour, pasta, sugar, all sorts of noodlesBasically, everything related to food.

Altogether, there were over 100,000 tons

Hayley had Leonard and the others repair the main factory gates, draw an Hsign on it, and place a flag with her name. This factory was officially hers.

She then moved quickly to the warehouse, claiming all the boxed, packaged food for herself.

By the time she finished, her inventory was about threequarters fullroughly equivalent to a tenstory building packed to the brim with supplies.

The food she had could feed up to 8,000 people for life.

Hayley was very pleased.

She didn’t touch the other machines or production lines yet. Once her base’s production improved, she could come back and process the food efficiently.

Today had been a massive haul: a giant food factory, over ten tons of supplies, sixteen new residents, and more than a thousand crystal cores.
