The woman spotted the convoy and sprinted toward them, screaming for help.
“Help! Help!!”
But she hadn’t gone far before zombies on both sides of the road pounced, sinking their teeth into her artery.
Rowena immediately recognized the screams. “It’s Callie and Felicia!”
Everyone in the vehicles froze as they watched through the windows, horrified. The two girls were being surrounded and devoured alive. No one could look away, yet no one wanted to look too closely.
These were the same girls Hayley had asked if they wanted to come with her, but they had chosen to leave.
Their homes weren’t far from the factory. Even though Hayley had warned them that zombies were there, they ignored her advice and tried to go anyway.
Now, seeing them run toward their homes only to encounter the undead, it was clear they were trying to flee back But there was no escaping the zombies, who had spotted them from every direction.
The moment they appeared, the starving zombies around them locked on like predators. There was nowhere left
to run.
Everyone watched in shock as the girls were consumed, their bodies twitching and mutating right before their
eyes.
Boom!
The lead armored vehicle slammed the accelerator, crushing two zombie clusters and clearing a path, killing the zombies on the road to open a safe corridor.
All the vehicles followed Hayley’s lead, moving carefully along the cleared route.
Once they were safely past those zombie hordes, everyone felt their sense of security double and a deep wave of relief wash over them.
They were thankful they had decisively followed Hayley instead of trying to go back home like those two girls.
Outside, there was literally no safe place or chance of luck. Only staying with Hayley could guarantee survival. That was what she promised.
The convoy drove quickly toward the outskirts.
They stopped among a cluster of villas in the distant suburbs.
The moment Hayley arrived, Anthony’s family came running.
“Ms. Reid! You’re here!”
Hayley spotted Anthony, Kate, and Cloudia, and gave them a nod.
She waved for the others from the six cars following her to get out.
“From now on, all of you will live here,” she told them.
