The Ending She Read (And the One He Rewrote) novel Chapter 28

Sitting at the head of the table, Reginald Whitaker looked thoroughly displeased.

Jason acted as if he didn't notice. He methodically picked the bones out of a piece of fish and placed the meat into Archer's bowl.

One fed, the other ate. The father and son mirrored each other perfectly, maintaining identical expressions of cool indifference.

Reginald's anger only flared higher.

Sensing the tension, Grace pushed a bowl of soup toward his hand. "Have some soup..."

Reginald waited until the staff had taken Archer away after the meal before glaring furiously at Jason. "How many times does this family have to end up in the tabloids because of that stupid, toxic woman?"

"Is the Whitaker family afraid of the news?"

With one sentence from Jason, Reginald's face darkened significantly.

Given how many people there were in the Whitaker family, had they really been in the gossip columns that infrequently?

Comparatively, Harriet's incidents were minor.

Even Reginald himself—who could forget the endless string of scandals he had caused in his youth? None of them were less scandalous than what Harriet did.

Otherwise, why would the old patriarch have bypassed him entirely and handed the Whitaker Group directly to Jason?

Reginald glared at him.

Jason remained completely unfazed.

Having no other choice, Reginald brought up the bedridden Old Mrs. Whitaker. "Your grandmother feels the same way."

Only then did a flicker of humanity cross Jason's face. "... I know."

Seeing him stand up to leave, Reginald's voice went cold. "You two signed a prenup. When you divorce, don't lose your mind. Do not give her a single cent more than she's legally owed! That money is..."

He met Jason's gaze.

Those dark, unfathomable eyes looked like a turbulent ocean at the bottom of a cliff.

Reginald stopped talking.

Jason scoffed coldly. "My private affairs are none of your concern."

"You..."

He wanted to curse him for being a rebellious son, but this son had long outgrown any authority Reginald possessed.

Reginald gripped his clay teapot so tightly it nearly shattered.

Jason walked back to the third courtyard.
