"Wow..."
She had eaten way too much for lunch. One look at the dining table, and it was entirely covered with all her favorite dishes.
Not long after eating, Harriet slipped into a food coma.
Audrey treated her like a toddler, tucking her into bed for a nap.
Half asleep, Harriet heard a faint whimpering sound. She rolled over, and the sound disappeared.
When she woke up and went downstairs, she saw Alastair holding Seraphina while they watched cartoons.
The little girl had clearly been crying. Her eyes were red, and she was still sniffling as she stared at the screen.
On the TV, a bunch of brightly colored hair dryers were laughing hysterically.
Audrey sat beside them, holding a fruit platter and feeding Seraphina a strawberry tip, then a cherry, one bite at a time.
Harriet walked over. "What happened here?"
"Mommy..." Seraphina pouted and threw herself into Harriet's arms.
Alastair nervously explained, "It's my fault. I didn't keep a close enough eye on her..."
Aside from Audrey's plants, the greenhouse also housed Alastair's two parrots and a chameleon that Caleb had randomly put in there.
Someone had left the cage open, and the two parrots scrambled out, landing right on Seraphina's head.
Before she could even start laughing, she spotted the chameleon right in front of her.
The little girl panicked, screaming for Grandpa to save her, stepped on a gardening hoe, and took a hard fall.
She scraped her hands.
And her little tulle dress got caught on a branch, ripping a hole.
Seraphina looked up at Harriet pitifully, looking like she was about to cry again.
Harriet gently patted her back, coaxing her softly. "Our Seraphina is the bravest little princess. It's okay..."
As she spoke, Harriet's expression shifted slightly.
Sure, kids were bound to get a few bumps and bruises.
But wasn't Seraphina's accident rate a little too high?
