Leon frowned instantly.
Beatrice continued tapping her fingers on the desk, striking a provocative posture.
"Supervisors need to be reasonable, too. Making me organize expired files is a complete waste of time when I have other things to handle."
After speaking, Jillian sat down.
Smack!
Beatrice slammed one hand heavily onto the stack of documents. "What work is more important than your supervisor's orders? It's not up to you to decide if a file is useful. You've repeatedly leveraged your personal relationship with Mr. Langley to abandon your post. That is passive negligence. According to company policy, I have every right to fire you!"
Jillian pressed her lips into a tight line. She hadn't abandoned her post. The internship task Daniel had assigned her was to rotate through different departments and roles so she could familiarize herself with the company's daily operations. Because of this, she didn't belong to any specific department.
As for her leaving the office during work hours these past few days, it was because Daniel had instructed her to take Leon around the factory grounds so he could get a firsthand look at the production lines.
Naturally, there was no need to disclose Daniel's confidential instructions to Beatrice.
Yet, Beatrice mistakenly believed she was slacking off and skipping work.
"We can check with Mr. Langley..."
Jillian picked up her phone, intending to call Daniel right then and there to prove her innocence.
"Don't you dare bring up Mr. Langley in every sentence!" Beatrice suddenly exploded, swatting the phone out of her hand with a vicious slap.
The phone slid across the smooth floor for a long time before finally coming to a halt. Jillian's gaze followed it, noting the shattered screen.
"So what if you have some history with Mr. Langley? You follow him around like a lost puppy all day. You tag along when he eats, you tag along when he inspects, constantly sucking up to him. I know exactly what you're thinking, Jillian. Why don't you look in the mirror? You're built like a pig. Even if you want to climb the social ladder, you should weigh your own worth first..."
Slap!
Jillian delivered a ringing backhand across her face.
Everyone froze. Even Jillian herself was stunned.
She had been a pushover for so long that she had forgotten she was capable of striking back.
Jillian sat down, her chest heaving violently.
She knew full well that Beatrice had always harbored intentions of getting close to Daniel. They had worked closely in the past, and Daniel had taken her to a few business events, giving her unrealistic hopes.
But after Jillian arrived, she effectively took over the position that Beatrice felt belonged to her. Naturally, Beatrice viewed her as an imaginary rival.
However, Beatrice's outburst also reflected the quiet suspicions some people in the company held regarding her relationship with Daniel.
She definitely needed to be more careful in the future.
Leon strode over to her. "Are you alright?"
Jillian looked up and managed a faint smile. "I'm fine."
She massaged her palm. It had been so long since she had hit anyone that her hand was buzzing with a numb sting.
The questioning, scrutinizing gazes of her colleagues fell upon her. When Jillian looked back at them, they quickly averted their eyes.
