Perhaps it was the beautiful weather, but her mood unconsciously lightened.
Jillian's lips curved upward as she replied with a smile, "It's not bad."
Daniel chuckled and started the car.
Up on the top-floor terrace of The Yale Residences, Killian sat in a wicker chair, looking down from his vantage point. He took in the entire scene of Jillian and Daniel laughing and chatting in the car.
He didn't look away until the vehicle had disappeared into the distance, his face entirely devoid of expression.
When they arrived at St. Jude's University, the two of them strolled side by side along the campus pathways.
It was the height of summer, and the campus was at its most picturesque. Roses bloomed vibrantly along the walkways, while the pond was blanketed in layers of lily pads, interspersed with elegant pink and white lotus flowers.
Students from St. Jude's walked past them, their faces bright and full of innocent joy. Watching them, Jillian felt her own tension melt away.
"Today is Professor Summers's birthday," Daniel suddenly mentioned.
Jillian froze, a wave of panic hitting her. "Why didn't you tell me earlier? I haven't prepared a gift at all!"
"Don't worry, I've got you covered," Daniel reassured her. "Professor Summers never accepts expensive gifts from his students anyway, and he's been obsessed with calligraphy since he retired. I tracked down two rare antique copybooks—one from you, and one from me."
Jillian thanked him gratefully.
"Not telling you in advance was a little punishment," Daniel teased with a grin. "You can't forget the professor's birthday from now on."
Jillian nodded earnestly.
For the past few years, she had been trapped by her marriage and household duties, her days revolving endlessly around her child. She had completely isolated herself from any social life, losing her friends, her sense of self, and even the memory of a respected mentor's birthday.
Now that she was determined to break free from this marriage, she needed to slowly transition back into a normal life and reconnect with society.
They had entered through the north gate and wandered all the way to the east side, which wasn't far from the faculty housing where the professor lived.
Daniel frowned slightly, sounding uncertain. "It doesn't look like it, but I'm not sure what's going on."
Once it was time for their appointment, the two finally made their way through the east gate and toward the faculty housing block.
Professor Summers lived on the third floor. After they rang the doorbell, Mrs. Summers opened the door with a warm, welcoming smile.
"You're finally here! He's been looking forward to seeing you all morning!"
"We saw the professor surrounded by a film crew on campus earlier, so we didn't want to intrude," Daniel explained.
Mrs. Summers sighed. "It's just an assignment the university threw at him. They told him to cooperate with some documentary filming."
"Are they filming a documentary specifically about him?" Daniel asked.
"I'm just a humble teacher, what use would I have for something like that?" Professor Summers happened to walk in right at that moment. He began taking off his shoes as he elaborated, "You two know her actually. They're filming Sylvia."
